The Great Rail Wars is a table-top miniatures game set in the Weird West. The year is 1876, and the Civil War rages on. The discovery of a super-fuel called Ghost Rock in California has allowed mad scientists to create bizarre devices such as Gatling pistols, automatons and flamethrowers. Both the Union and Confederate Governments have realized the side that gets a steady supply of Ghost Rock first will win. Spurred on by promises of vast rewards, six Rail Barons push their lines west, determined to be the first to control a tran-continental railroad. Driven by ruthless ambition, they employ gangs of gunmen, magic-wielding hucksters, mad scientists and supernatural abominations to destroy their rivals. Rail Wars is like the wargame version of "Wild, Wild West" meets "Night of the Living Dead." This is a really fun game; it's been out of print for a while, but Pinnacle has just released the new edition (as of April 13, 2001). Check out their site for information! | ![]() ![]() |

On the left, you'll see links to Rail Wars Battles (a mini-campaign and various Twisted Tales I've written) and the Steam Launch, which is an idea for a new rig. The Steam Tank appeared in the "Derailed" supplement, but no model was ever produced (until now - check the Pinnacle site). I built my "Gator" to help out the good Baron's Bayou Vermillion forces. Follow the link to find pictures of the tank and some comments on the construction. A list of some of my Rail Wars forces is to the right; this also includes pictures of my painted models. Below that is the Terrain section. I haven't gotten many photos of my Weird West Terrain yet, but some of the existing bits are shown and there are notes on how I built it. |
