The word of the Lord came to me saying, “Before
I formed you in the
womb I knew you, before you were
born I set you apart; I appointed you
as a prophet to the
nation….See, today
I appoint you over nations and
kingdoms to uproot and tear down, destroy and overthrow, to build
and to plant.”
(Jeremiah
1:4-5, 10).

It was a chilly cold winter morning, 25
years ago, in January 1980. I stood at the junction between
BSF Road
and
Tedim Road
, waiting to buy some charcoal to warm our poor family from the cold winter.
A short while later, I saw a young woman
and her son, around 7 years old, holding each other’s hands, coming towards
me. As they came nearer, I could see that both of them were bare-footed and
shivered with cold. The woman wore a torn, dirty knee-length skirt and an old
ragged Tee-shirt. Her son wore a torn, dirty white kamis.
Though I was only 12 years old, I felt so
much for them that I just broke out in tears which I could not hold back. With
tearful eyes I cried out to God and prayed him saying, “Lord, when I grow up, make me to be an instrument of help for the
needy and the poor.”
As I grew up, my thoughts were filled with
this divine calling to help the down-trodden and the needy. In high school, I
dreamt of becoming a doctor thinking this profession would be the best way to
help my people who were needy and suffering. However, due to my family’s
difficult economic situation, I was unable to fulfill this dream.
In college, I stretched my mind trying to find the best that I could do to
fulfill this call from God, and thought of studying law to become a lawyer.
However, God has His own plan to fulfill His will in my life. After graduation
from college, my cousin, Khen P. Tombing advised and help me finished my
Master’s degree (1995), and afterwards to pursue and to obtain my M.Div.
degree (2001) in the USA. In these
ways God clearly led me, trained me and answered my prayers after a long wait of
20 years to fulfill His Calling.

The Home has grown from those above to those below between 2002 and 2008.

In January 2002 the long dreamt orphanage
called “COVENANT CHILDREN’S HOME was started taking into its care 14
children orphaned by ethnic clashes, drug addiction, and AIDS. Presently, the
Home is taking care of 124 orphans. Besides, there are more than 300 orphans who
are in need of care but are held back due to lack of financial support for them.
When I looked back at my life, I came to realize that God has made me to
be a doctor and a lawyer to heal and free the lives of His people, spiritually
and physically.
If you are willing, you can be part of this great challenge in
transforming the lives of these innocent children in giving them a better world
to live in.
He
is the Lord of Hope for all the
destitute,
His grace is sufficient for all
people;
He gives joy to all those who draw
near Him,
His goodness is more than tongue can
tell.
I will never be able to tell of the grace of my Lord,
His goodness for me, I would not describe.
I will know more of His mercy as I grow up,
A refuge, for me, He is, now, and
forever!
Mother to the motherless, and Father to the fatherless,
He gives love to those who has no one to love them;
He is the Comforter of all those who need comfort,
He is the Lord and giver of life to all mankind.
