Development Office

"We make a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give."
Winston Churchill

History
In 1987 Father Terrance Simpowski, O. Carm. met with the Executive Council of the Sisters of Mount Carmel to recommend a direct-mail program to address the need of increasing income. Sister Ethalee Mulhern, O. Carm. (now deceased) attended the National Catholic Development Conference in Baltimore, MD, September 1987. Sister Ethalee accepted the position of Director of Development and officially the Development Program was established May 2, 1988.

Under the administration of Mother Delores Delahoussaye, O. Carm. a Missions Office was established. In January 1988 Mother Dolores died and in March Father Kieran O'Hara, O. Carm. retired, leaving our Missions Office vacant. The Missions' mailing was absorbed into the Development Program.

Purpose
The Development Office, through our direct-mail program, supports the Sisters of Mount Carmel in their works of ministry. Donations, both large and small, can be given to any of the following needs:

    • Retired Sisters' Care
    • Child Care
    • Sisters' Ministries
    • Philippine Missions
    • Carmelite Spirituality Center
    • Hurricane Relief and Restoration
    • Where the Sisters Need It Most

Gratitude
The Sisters of Mount Carmel are most grateful for your prayers, care, concern and generous support. Quarterly, development letters are sent to you to keep you updated regarding the Sisters of Mount Carmel as well as to give you a prayer and spiritual message for reflection.

It is our prayer that Our Lady of Mount Carmel grant you many graces for your kindnesses to us.

Prayer
Let us join in prayer asking Mary for the graces we need:

    Memorare

Remember O most gracious Virgin Mary that never was it known that anyone who fled to Your protection, implored Your help, and sought Your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto You, O Virgin of virgins, My Mother! To You I come; before You I stand, sinful and sorrowful. Oh Mother of the Word incarnate! despise not my petitions, but, in Your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.

    FLOS CARMELI
    (Flower of Carmel)

    O beautiful Flower of Carmel,
most fruitful vine, splendor of heaven,
    holy and singular,
who brought forth the Son of God,
still ever remaining a pure virgin,
    assist us in our necessity!
O Star of the Sea, help and protect us!
