If you have been raped: Call the police if you feel that person who assaulted you may return. Do not wash your hands, shower, brush your teeth, urinate, douche, drink, eat, or change clothes. Vital evidence could be destroyed. Contact your local rape crisis center, and have them meet you at either their SANE facility or a nearby emergency room. It is of course, your decision whether or not to seek medical help or report the crime perpetrated against you. Know that all information that you give to your advocate is confidential within the confines of Alabama law, and that they only wish to help you. If you are a victim of child molestation or sexual assault in years past, contact your local crisis center for help and for information on counseling and support groups. Always remember, that nothing that happened to you is your fault. You are a survivor, and you deserved nothing that happened regardless of where you were, what you were doing, who you were with, or what you were wearing. |
