Although as a former Fiat Dealer mechanic, I must be suspicious of people who actually like those twin cammed tinker toys from Italy.  (Fix It Again Tony!)  :o)

Actually, the reason I wrote was to mention that the Narma link on your Ural page should be narma.org .  You are inadvertently pointing to Narma and Associates.  Keep up the good work.

Thanks.  I corrected the NARMA link (Russian Motorcycle Association).  I’m glad you liked it.  It is a work “in progress”.  –Bob.

Thanks for the feedback.  This site was created over a two week period at the end of 2001.  I used Microsoft WORD 2000 to create the pages.  My thought is, keep it simple, straightforward, and easy to load.  RCN (starpower.net) provides me with 10MB of free space on an old UNIX server.  Keep that overhead low!  However, for some reason, Microsoft WORD creates TWO image files for each image I load!  I was quickly over 12MB in space.

I noticed that if I erased the larger of these two file (the source file) the pages seemed to load OK on Microsoft Explorer.  However, I quickly learned that they didn’t load on Netscape Navigator or come other software.

An investigation of the source HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) reveals an “IF..THEN” type statement which detects VML presence and switches between the different image files.  I am in the process of manually editing all of the pages to reference the same image files.

This keeps the website space small, but in Netscape Navigator, you’ll find that the images are not as high resolution as they are in Microsoft Internet Explorer.  “Site best viewed using Internet Explorer” – now I know what that means.

All part of the Bill Gates conspiracy to take something as simple as HTML and make it into a proprietary Microsoft-only format.

Thanks for the feedback!  It’s a work in progress (and I’m learning HTML the hard way)

Hi Rob:

Here's the bitch about doing web pages;

No matter what program you use, or even if you're a geek master web page

designer who thinks in  HTML, your page won't look the same on all systems

or servers, or for that matter, on two Macs or PCs. Every professional web

designer I know say they all struggle with this. What I've heard about your

Microsoft program is that when creating web pages, it adds additional html

language. I've heard this sometimes causes problems.

But generally, I hear good things about Microsoft word.

The unsucessfull links I was referring to are on the homepage under

"Disclamers.

The first one is "Information Materials" under the #1 Legal Advice and

"Patents" under #2 lawyer Advertising.

VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!:

You must use a repeating flash animatin on your front page using a cut-out

of the Soviet cycle and sidecar with you and mark going from left to right.

Other than that, your page looks great!

Well, that’s encouraging.  No matter what I do, it won’t display properly on somebody’s browser.  How do these commercial sites do it?  They must have multiple pages for different viewers and systems.

I’ll try to put more spacing between photos and pictures.  Some browsers don’t pick up on spacing that others recognize.  Plus, font sizes seem to change depending upon computer.

I am also still having problems with some of the Articles not changing fonts (reverting to Courier instead of Ariel or Times New Roman or CG Times).

Yes, we need more slow-loading animation……

I fixed the broken links today.

Hi Bob,

I just took another look and the "Not In Love With Texas..." page is

back up and running.  Great picture!  I remember as a kid seeing helmets

like that with goggles attached.  Bet they really are collector's items

now.

Best wishes, and Happy New Year!

Dick

I’m glad to hear that the site if getting viewable on more than just one kind of browser.  Use the refresh button if you are having problems – the system might be caching an old page.

> i checked out the website!  i really like the genealogy page!  but the

> date of grandma's birth says 1975.  thought i'd let you know she's

> only be 13 when she died.  you also look a little like plat wiggins in

> the pic of him in the flight jacket!

Well, life expectancy was a lot shorter then, and people tended to

get married and have children at a very early age.

CHAPTER 3! CHAPTER 3! CHAPTER 3! ROFL

This is great stuff. You should publish this!

Cheers,

He is referring to the Mexico saga.  I am typing as fast as I can!
