NOTE ON SCOPE AND LOCATION OF
PRACTICE:
At
the present time, I am registered as an Attorney with the VIRGINIA STATE BAR
and also registered to practice before the UNITED STATES PATENT AND TRADEMARK
OFFICE (USPTO). This means I can
legally practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia and also before the Patent
& Trademark Office.
I
cannot advise clients on matters regarding State law in States other than the
Commonwealth of Virginia, or in Foreign Countries. If you need specific State law advice or advice on matters in
foreign countries, please retain the services of an Attorney registered to
practice in that State or Country.
In
addition, I have chosen to limit my practice to Intellectual Property Law,
particularly Patent Law, and in particular, preparation and prosecution of
Patent Applications before the United States Patent & Trademark
Office. Since this is a Federal
jurisdiction, I can legally represent clients from any State or Country before
the USPTO. At the present time, I have
clients from nearly all 50 States and nearly as many countries from across the
globe.
If
you wish to obtain a Patent, I may be able to help you. If you need advice on matters other than
Patent Prosecution, I would suggest you retain another Attorney. As of January 1, 2006, I have been referring
all Copyright and Trademark matters to Attorney Bill Heinze, thus limiting my scope of
practice to strictly Patent Prosecution.
The
United States Patent & Trademark Office has implemented a paperless,
on-line filing and prosecution system, allowing Attorneys and Agents to file
and prosecute Patent Applications directly on-line with the USPTO. An Attorney or Agent no longer needs to be
near the Patent Office to expeditiously file and prosecute applications. All one needs is a high-speed Internet
connection.
Thus,
on January 1, 2005, we moved our practice to Florida, residing in Pompano
Beach, and sold our home of 20 years in Alexandria, Virginia. At the time of this writing, our Office
Building at 917 Duke Street is also for sale.
We spend the summers at our lake house in King Ferry, New York, where we
maintain a mailing address in nearby Aurora, New York.
After
one of the worst hurricane seasons on record, as well as a substantial run-up
in housing prices in Florida, we decided to de-camp to Jekyll Island, Georgia,
near the Florida border. As of January
1, 2006, I am a resident of Georgia. I spend
most of the year at my home there and summer at our lake house in King Ferry,
New York. Part of the year I also live
on our boat, the Riparian Day, usually in Florida.
Regardless
of where we are located, you can always reach me at the contact numbers listed
on this website. In addition, mail sent
to our mailing address will be forwarded to me using the United States Postal
Service premium forwarding service.
