Kneeling or Sitting
What do you do next depends upon the architecture of the church you are in.
If there are kneelers you sit in a prayerful posture with your hands resting on your lap. The posture in either case is one of prayer.
Empty your heart to God. Sometimes it is helpful to pray a few memorized prayers, but these should always be followed by a real conversation with God. Tell Him all that is on your mind. Do not try to drive out your thoughts as though God could not possibly be interested in them. Your thoughts are an excellent place to invite God into your life.
Reflect on where God is in your life as you kneel or sit there in the church. Do you think about God at all times? Or is it one of those rare occasions?
Becoming Aware of God’s Presence
Be aware of the Presence of God.
God is everywhere. It is when we come to prayer that we should turn our attention to fostering a deep sense of God’s Presence.
Acknowledge God’s Presence in the Eucharist. Tell Jesus all of your concerns, and ask Him to be more real to you. Ask Him to help you to feel the reality of His Presence in your midst and to be aware that you will take that presence with you when you leave the church today.
Kneeling and facing the tabernacle is a good way to build an awareness of God’s Presence in your life. Your body is cooperating in this act and is helping you to acknowledge that this is not “business as usual,” but rather that something important is happening here.
