The Wheeler Basin Sams is a group of "mature" (we don't like to think of ourselves as elderly) folks who enjoy RV camping, good food, good friends and good fellowship (whatever that means). We are organized (?) under the auspices of the Good Sam Club. We say we are "based" in Decatur, Alabama, but we have happy members from many counties in north central Alabama, so, if you live in north central Alabama, own an RV (or thinking about owning one) you might just find us to be the group you are looking for. Check us out! We'd like to meet you.
For
additional information, please e-mail me by clicking on
the sign below. You can leave a question or a phone
number and I'll call you (even long-distance - we have
"unlimited long distance service) It's free and
doesn't hurt at all. If the e-mail signpost doesn't work,

Well folks, it's been an "interesting" week, to say the least. First off, Eddie Mae did have the surgery on her hand and evidently, it went well. But she won't get the stitches out until the day before the June Campout.
She asks that EVERYONE get the pictures and answers (to the little sheet she gave out) to her NO LATER THAN THE CAMPOUT. Since there are several who won't be going, she asks that you PLEASE get your stuff to someone who can carry it to her, or that you mail it to her.
Naomi just got home from the hospital. She spent five days there, and it definitely was not a vacation. She had some unexpected surgery, but she is doing well, although she says she is still pretty weak. You might want to let her hear from you.
And Barb has had a little bad luck as well. Thursday afternoon she was working with the shrubs around the back deck and backed up hitting one of the edging stones. She fell backward, hitting her head (she literally saw stars for a while), bruising her tail bone and breaking her left wrist. We got home from the emergency room about 12:45 Friday morning. She is sporting an ENORMOUS temporary cast on her arm up past her elbow, but the break is a little troublesome in that it is going to require an orthopedic specialist to set it right. She has an appointment at 9:00 AM Monday. Meanwhile, she is in some degree of pain. They tell her she will not be comfortable sitting for several weeks and the arm hurts like the dickens. It's amazing how difficult it is to do even the most simple everyday things we do without even thinking about it. And I'm learning some new skills as well.
Now that means we are not going to be able to go to the June campout, and we are scheduled as hosts. Our first thought was to switch with someone, but we talked with the Bobbitts (our co-hosts) and they said they wanted to just host it by themselves and not get a couple to switch. Wouldn't you know it, Melba called when she heard about Barb's problem to ask if we would like to have them switch hosting duties with us. I tell you, that Melba is a jewel. Thanks, Melba, but Eddie Mae says they want to do it by themselves.
They are planning to have POTLUCK both Thursday and Friday nights.
Several of our members left for home on Saturday at out last campout. This happens quite frequently. I think we should strongly consider starting our campouts on Wednesday instead of Thursday, and then go home on Saturday. It's just "different" when folks leave, especially when the hosts leave. I know this has come up for discussion before, but let's discuss it again.
Eddie Mae is doing a great job of packaging the Scrapbook. She did an absolutely OUTSTANDING job on the 2008 Scrapbook and it only placed 3rd at the Samboree. Frankly, I'm convinced no matter how good and how outstanding our scrapbook may be, other groups will take the top prizes. They ALWAYS do. For my vote, I would like to see Eddie Mae continue to do the Scrapbook, but there isn't much point in carrying it to the Samboree for competition. I sure would have liked to have seen the ones that placed first and second. They must have been phenomenal.
A special note of apology
Milton informed me he is quite angry with me. When I didn't update this webpage during the month of April, I didn't show that his birthday was April 6, and Ms. Billie's birthday was April 11. I sincerely apologize and regret this oversight. I'm certain all our club members will be rushing out to purchase appropriate gifts, as usual, and sending them, along with belated birthday wishes, to this fine couple.
I also missed Sue How on April 2, and Steve Nelson on April 4. My apologies to you, too, Ms. Sue and Steve.
June Celebrations!

Anniversaries
