in Jackson County once known as Bellefonte, Alabama.

Civil War, Rejection of Railroad Led to Bellefonte's Demise

Bellefonte --  Once located between the present town of Hollywood and a nuclear power plant under construction, very little remains of the once booming river town of Bellefonte.
Tradition has it that the town disappeared because it spurned the progress represented by the advancing railroad.  (continued)
