Sharon Baptist Church Awana General Information
Welcome! Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed
“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman
that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the
word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15)
.
AWANA is…
God’s Word commands parents to train up a child in the way he
should go (Proverbs 22:6) . It also directs churches to support
them in this critical endeavor. These two (parents and church family) working together is the biblical blueprint for developing spiritually strong children and youth who follow our Savior for life.
Awana Clubs are intently focused on helping the Churches and
parents locally and worldwide raise children and youth to know,
love and serve God. Awana Clubs connect churches and parents
through weekly programs and special events that introduce
children to Christ and help build a biblical foundation for faith.
Here at Sharon we are focused on God and leaving a legacy for
our future which are the children.
About Sharon’s Clubs…
Sharon Baptist Church offers four different AWANA clubs:
Cubbies: boys and girls ages 3 (on or before Sept. 1)
through 5 (but not yet in kindergarten)
Sparks: boys and girls in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd
Grades
T&T (truth and training): boys and girls in 3rd, 4th
5th and 6th grades.
Trek: boys and girls in 7th and 8th grades
Our clubs meet on Wednesday Evenings from 6:30pm
to 8:00pm. Each club meeting includes:
Opening Ceremony: a time to gather and begin club with order
and respect.
Handbook Time: a small group time to recite verses and build
Relationships.
Game Time: a time of fun and competition to build teamwork
and pride.
Council Time: a time for learning to apply scripture to daily lives
and how to present the Gospel.
It is very important that the children arrive on time so they do not miss important announcements and activities. Please escort Cubbies to the appropriate classroom and allow Sparks, T&T, and Trek Clubber to come immediately to the Gym. When the club meeting is over, please pick up all clubbers on Time. Thank You.
AWANA Guidelines…
In order to have a safe, orderly, and enjoyable environment for everyone, our club has established the following guidelines. All clubbers are expected to abide by these to ensure a good time for all.
1. Respect your fellow club members - treat them as you would like to be treated.
2. Everyone should participate in games, listening, studying,
singing or any other activities. All are expected to be involved.
3. Clubbers must remain on Church property and with your group at all times. Although things may change, there is no reason for any clubber to leave the main church building during club time.
4. Walk carefully– DO NOT RUN. Unless playing an approved game, no one should run in the Church building.
5. Leave all food and drink at home - including GUM. The only food that is allowed is that which is provided by your leader.
6. Do not cross the parking lot unless given the all clear by your leader. See #3
7. Come to attention, be attentive, and quiet when any leader
begins a five count.
8. To earn points for your team, be sure to bring your bible, AWANA book, offering, and wear your uniform every week.
9. Bring note from your parents or have them call the leaders if you have any questions.
10. Please take care of the Church property and club equipment.
11. Please do not bring cell phones, ipods, DS’s, or any other
electronic device. This causes serious distractions to others.
12. Please do not allow your clubber to bring any toys to Awana.
This distracts them and others from the lessons.
13. CUBBIE PARENTS: ONE OR BOTH SHOULD REMAIN
AT THE CHURCH DURING AWANA !!
14. Always wear a SMILE! AWANA is meant to be fun!
About AWANA Discipline…
Discipline in AWANA clubs is meant to be positive, encouraging, and teach appropriate behavior. The principle tools used to maintain conduct are the 5 count and the 3 count.
5-Count: Used to quiet or bring to order a large group. The person in Charge (Director or Leader) initiates the 5-Count by holding up one hand and fingers extend accordingly while slowly counting to five loud enough to be heard . At the count of five , all clubbers and Leaders are expected to be quiet and attentive.
3-Count: Used when an individual clubber continues to misbehave.
Count of One: a warning is given by any leader to a clubber
That he/she is being watched. The Leader giving the
one-count informs the director
Count of Two: The misbehaving clubber is counseled by the Director who investigates the problem. The Director may choose to have the clubber miss the rest of the club activities and/or miss the team award.
Count of Three: The Clubber is counseled by the
Commander. The Clubber’s parents may be called and
the clubber may be taken home.
If the Clubber continues to misbehave, a conference may be scheduled with the parents and The Commander to determine if the Clubber should continue in The AWANA program.
Team Competition…
Each Club meeting night, the clubbers will compete against other
Teams in their club. Every Clubber is assigned to a team color (red, blue, yellow, green) and will remain on that team the entire year.
Points are awarded for each clubber on the team who 1) is on time to club meeting, 2) attends church, 3) pays dues, 4) wears a neat uniform 5) completes sections, 6) brings a bible. Additional points are available to the team during the Game Time. Points may be awarded for
1)winning games, 2) good sportsmanship, and 3) assisting the game
Director. At the end of the night, a winning team will be announced for each club (Cubbies, Sparks, T&T) and a small prize awarded to each member of the team.
Uniforms and Books…
The AWANA uniform is a vital part of the club program. It helps all
Clubbers to feel a part of the club and encourages an attitude of respect. It is also the place where awards are displayed and can be a source of pride for the clubbers. Each club has a uniform that is worn for all three years of that club. It is expected that clubbers will wear an appropriate uniform each night. T&T shirts should be tucked in, and awards correctly displayed. Uniform inspections are given on random nights and points awarded.
All new clubbers receive an entrance booklet free of charge. Once this is completed, the appropriate handbook may be purchased.
Dues…
Dues for the AWANA Clubs are 60 cents per week. While the Church covers the major cost of the clubs, dues are used to help pay for entrance booklets, awards, prizes and supplies. It has become very popular to pay the dues for the entire year at the beginning of the AWANA year. We will meet for 34 weeks this year, dues for the total year is $20.00. This year we are asking that Dues be paid at the beginning of the term. If the clubber wishes to bring monies for offerings, These will be used for Adopt-a-club Program, Super Saturdays, and other Special Awana Events.
What to do If….
You Bring a Friend:
Be sure to come early so you have time to take him/her to the AWANA Secretary to register before the opening ceremony. Be sure your visitor knows his/her address, phone number, birth date and grade.
You lose an Award:
Initial awards are provided. You will be responsible for the replacement cost. Award prices begin at $1.00. See the secretary for help.
You are unable to say all sections during club time:
While we will make sure everyone has the opportunity to recite their verses, there may be times when you have prepared a large number of sections and there is not enough time to listen to all of them. When this happens, please let your leader know so a listener can be arranged before or after handbook time.
You lose an entrance booklet:
The first one is provided. Additional copies may be purchased from the secretary for 50 Cents.
You lose a handbook:
You can purchase a handbook from the secretary and your leader will update the sections passed. Please be aware that you may have to repeat one or two sections to get back on track.
