| I saw a pair of slippers, each made from 8 squares, in the 2007 Knitting
Pattern-a-Day calendar. They are credited to
Janet Armstrong. What you see
here is also a slipper consisting of 8 squares. The instructions that
follow are not those written by Janet Armstrong or those that appear in the
calendar. I wanted to do a similar slipper, making the squares
differently. I used scraps of three different kinds of worsted weight yarn.
The pattern is written for three. Use as many or as few as you'd like.
I used US size 8, but I nearly always have to go a size smaller than any
pattern is written. You may want to use US 9.
Gauge: it's not too important. Women's medium is based on a 25
stitch square = 3". Women's large is a 31 stitch square=3 1/2".
SQUARE 1:
With color A, cast on 25 (31) stitches.
Row 1: K 24(30),
p1.
Row 2: sl 1, k
10(13), sl1, k2tog, psso, k 10(13), p1.
Row 3: sl 1, k to
last stitch, p1.
Repeat rows 2 and 3, knitting one less stitch either side of the
row 2 decrease each time. For example, the next row 2 would
be sl 1, k9(12), sl1, k2tog, psso, k9(12), p1. Keep repeating these
two rows until only 3 stitches remain.
Last row: sl 1, k2
tog, psso. Leave last stitch "live". Cut yarn.
SQUARE 2: With color B, k the "live" stitch from Square 1 and pick up
12(15) more stitches.
Cast on 12(15) additional stitches.
Work the same as Square
1.
SQUARE 3: With color C, k the "live" stitch from Square 2 and pick up
12(15) more stitches. Continue around the corner and pick up
12(15) more stitches down the side of Square 2.
Work the same as Square

SQUARE 7:

continue onto Square 5 and pick up 12(15) more stitches. Work the
same as Square 6, with the stitches picked up on row 3 coming from
Square 3.
SQUARE 8:
With color A, cast on 13(16)sts
and pick
up 12(15) stitches across
Square 2.
K the free stitch on Square 7. Note that on this square
only,
the
decreases are worked on the inside/wrong side. This allows the
triangle on the

all loose ends.
