We're Looking for a Few Good Preservationists


The North Florida Land Trust matches volunteers with important research, planning, field work and other tasks in support of Land Trust projects.

Apply your skills and experience working in field operations, education, fundraising, outreach, or office administration. Organize or sponsor a trail-building, clearing or hike on protected properties in your area.

Please let us know if any of the following activities would interest you:

• • Join us for a tour of one of our protected lands.

• • Participate in a stewardship work day, to help us maintain a trail or clean up a property.

• • Volunteer with one of our special events, such as a kayak trip, Annual Gathering of Friends or Legacy Luncheon.
  • Host a Learn about the Land Trust event for your friends or colleagues.

• • Serve on one of the Land Trust committees, such as Communications, Property or Governance.

Angela Valu Diaz, a member of our Communications team is responsible for finding and directing the helping hands that make the organization's programs and events as successful as they are.

"In some ways the volunteers are the glue that holds us together," Marcy Silkebaken, Chairperson of the Communications Committee said. "We rely on them for jobs big and small, and we couldn't be more thankful to them."

The men and women who help when called upon provide energy, enthusiasm, skill and hard work.

North Florida Land Trust's annual fundraising Legacy Luncheon relies on more than a dozen volunteers and twenty table captains who help organize all aspects of the event, which is the single most important source of Land Trust funds.

We have volunteers assist with our newsletter and organizing events for supporters. Others clip and file newspaper articles, and still others serve as hosts at our parties. Several help maintain our trails. Some take photos, provide legal advice and videotape our events. High school students and other volunteers map preserve trails.

With a staff of one, the North Florida Land Trust has numerous tasks that might go unfinished if it weren't for our volunteers. But even with the great volunteers we already have, NFLT needs more to join in the fun and help preserve land.

EVENT PLANNING COMMITTEE MEMBERS NEEDED!

We're planning a kick-off tour and fundraiser for our newest acquisition focus: Pumpkin Hill properties on the Northside, located within the Timucuan boundaries. We need volunteers to help make this event successful. One idea is a mountain/trail bicycle ride between properties, with a docent at each property explaining our needs, county staff talking about the archeology digs, Park Service providing introductory kayaking and, then serving everyone lunch at Cedar Point.

We're planning a week-long PAINT-OUT in St. Johns County, March 2009. Allison Watson is heading up this event. We need members for an organizational committee that is forming.

TABLE CAPTAINS AND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

We're planning our Third Annual Legacy Fundraiser Luncheon October 30, with Mayor John Peyton as our keynote speaker. We rely on more than a dozen volunteers and twenty table captains who help organize all aspects of the event, which is the single most important source of Land Trust funds. Table captains serve an important role by inviting guests and collecting donations at the luncheon.

Every donation helps, no matter what the size. The North Florida land Trust is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Florida organization. All gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Make an Honorary or Memorial Donation
in the Name of a Loved One

A gift to the North Florida land Trust is an excellent way to remember or honor a person who cares about conservation, pay tribute to a friend or family member, or celebrate a special occasion, such as a birthday, marriage, or anniversary. The North Florida Land Trust will send a card to the individual you designate notifying them of your gift. Please allow seven to ten days for the tribute card to arrive at the designee's address.

Remember Us in Your Will

Several options exist for giving long-term. Name the North Florida Land Trust as the beneficiary of your retirement assets or life insurance policy, or establish a Charitable Remainder Trust to receive periodic payments during your lifetime and then pass the “remainder” on to the North Florida Land Trust.


Apply for an Internship

The North Florida Land Trust hosts college students as interns to provide experience with nonprofit organizations and land trusts specifically. We need interns for property research, GIS input, public relations and marketing.

Raise money for the North Florida Land Trust

• Join one of our committees working on land conservation in your community.
• Host a “Learn About The Land Trust” event in your neighborhood. Invite a few friends over, serve some refreshments and enjoy a short program on land conservation efforts in your area.
• Volunteer or chair an event benefiting the North Florida Land Trust.
• Suggest the North Florida Land Trust as a benefactor for your fundraising efforts within your organization.
