July 4th in Boone, North Carolina
Watauga Community Band Like many towns across America, Boone in North Carolina holds annual Fourth of July events to celebrate the Birthday of our Country.

This year was different for us since we now have a residence close to the downtown area and were able to walk to the different venues and even took a nap between events.

The day's activities began at 1:00 p.m. with a performance by the Watuaga Community Band on the main street in town. They played patriotic songs to get the crowd into the right mood.

We heard them perform at the Grandfather Campground in 2006 and they seemed much improved. Perhaps they had been practicing more in anticipation of the larger audience.

At 2:00 p.m., the Parade proceded down the same street where the band concert was held.

The parade also included local politicians, noisy fire engines, girl's gymnastic and cheerleading groups, and people giving out lollypops.

The biggest surprise was when we discovered that the evening's fireworks display
was being held close to our condo and we could view it from our bedroom window.
Green Cluster
Oooh!
Red Bombshell
Aaah!
Big Dazzler
WOW!
After the fireworks display we watched the Atlanta Braves' game.
I think they lost to the LA Dodgers :-(
