Bus Service in Boone - July 10, 2007
 We could have walked but Norm wanted to check out the bus service in case he someday becomes lame. |
Since taking up residence near downtown Boone, we have discovered things about the area that we never knew before. We had seen buses traveling around the area and even heard that there was no charge to ride them. However, since we had always driven our truck into the downtown area, we never utilized the bus system. After we moved into the condo, Frieda had seen buses come into the ASU (Appalachian State University) parking lot near our condo and had noted the approximate time, so we went there and waited for one to arrive. |

After we boarded the bus, we obtained a map booklet which shows the various routes and lists the times of arrival at the stops along the way.
The map revealed that the Red Route had a stop within a few blocks of Melanie's, (our favorite breakfast place) so that became our destination. The bus service (known as AppalCART) is a coordinated effort by local, state and federal governments, and the Appalacian State University. It has offered public transportation in the area since 1981. Perhaps the most outstanding feature of the service is that it is provided FREE to its users. |

Melanie's Food Fantasy is the full name of the establishment and has gained its reputation by serving tasty and healthy food. We have been going there for a few years and have never been disappointed.
Naturally, Norm and Frieda have their favorite dishes; Norm's is the Canadian Bacon and Egg Biscuit; for only $2.25.
