         Section C
Estimating Sums and Differences
A very useful skill - one that will be tested on the LEAP also:
Work 10 correct with no more than 1 incorrect:
Front-End estimating of
Sums  (be sure to read the information)

Front-End estimating of Differences (again, read the explanation)

        Section D
If you made less than an 80% on your test Friday - practice here on integers
This interactive exercise EXPLAINS why add the opposite works for subtraction:

It's AWESOME
  Subtraction  of integers.
(Add the opposite - change minus to plus, and the sign of  the second number to its opposite)

Addition of integers
(Same signs - add, keep the sign)
(Unlike signs - subtract, give the difference the sign of the larger absolute value)

        Section E
PUZZLE -  GOOD LUCK! You are going to need it!

Make the circles add up to zero
Persistent and Determined Students Only Need Work THIS ONE!!!!!!!

                                 GO!

Now, work the following two links to show you can add and subtract signed integers.
RAISE YOUR HAND with 30 correct and 0 incorrect!

Add here .   Remember, negative is red and positive is black.  One red and One black together are a zero pair (equals 0).
Subtract here .  Remember, to subtract, ADD THE OPPOSITE.

Math Lab September 1, 2009
READ CAREFULLY:
The following link is a visual look at what we were doing in class yesterday with adding fractions with unlike denominators.
Procedure:
On your paper, write the two fractions the page gives you, then try to add them by finding the least common denominator (least common multiple) and then changing both fractions to equivalent fractions that have the least common multiple as their denominator.
After you have added them, use the arrows beside each fraction to change the denominators to the LCM.  Type the resulting fractions in the boxes provided and then check your answer.
Work ten problems like that and write your work and answers on your paper.
Raise your hand if you have questions.
                                Adding Fractions with unlike denominators

For the following link, pay particular attention to the number line and how the lines are labeled. Be sure to read the directions in the yellow box as they change when you click.
Work at least five of these problems, writing both original fractions, the new fractions, and one fraction that is between the new factions.
Example:   1/2     1/8      you change to:   4/8     1/8        you graph them
then you change the divsions using the arrows, then you find a fraction between them:  5/11
             So you write on your paper    1/2   1/8        4/8   1/8    5/11
