The MacRowdies  Band , in various forms, has been performing for Scottish country dancing throughout the Southeast since its founding in 1983, bringing fun to the feet of Scottish dance lovers with their exciting tunes, enjoyable arrangements and enthusiastic playing.

Dr. Pete Campbell, the band leader, plays piano, accordion and bass in various dance bands, including the wide traveling contra dance band Footloose, and has served on the musical staff of many dance camp weeks and dance weekend venues from coast to coast for Scottish, English, American contra and square dancing and International folk dancing. Pete has an R.S.C.D.S. preliminary teaching certificate, and also teaches English and colonial American  dancing as well as  calling for contra dancing and squares. He also loves to join in on any ceilidhs or song-fests and share his wealth of silly songs. Pete lives with his wife, Scottish dance teacher Mary McConnell, in Greensboro, N.C.

Dean Herington, the pianist, also plays clarinet with Footloose, and performs for International folk dancing  on a number of ethnic instruments as well. After a year in France with his wife and son on a sabbatical, they are now back in Hillsborough, N.C., so Dean is again playing with the  MacRowdies  for the  Loch Norman Highland Games.

Mara Shea , the fiddler, grew up in New England, and studied classical violin for most of her childhood in New Haven, CT.  She didn't discover Scottish dance music until relatively recently, and has embraced it wholeheartedly.  She now  plays for many Scottish country dances in the southeastern U.S. In 1999 and 2000 she won the Loch Norman Scottish fiddle Open competition, and in 1999 she won the Grandfather Mountain Scottish fiddle Open competition. The summer of 2002 found her on staff at Pinewoods for the Scottish sessions. Mara lives near Durham, North Carolina. She is a fiddler with several contra dance bands, most notably The Elftones and Shadrack's Delight, and she and her fiddle appear on a number of recordings. She also plays regularly for the Sun Assembly English country dances in Durham, NC.
