Saturday Gala Notes - April 18


Mrs. Stewart's Jig                            8  x 32  Jig
1-8         Cpl 1 set, L1 cast down around cpl 3, cross set and cast up to 2nd place.
               M1 follows around  L3 and  up the center to 2nd place on opposite  side; cpl 2  move up on 7-8
9-16       Cpls 2, 1 & 3 dance grand chain, flowing into
17-24     Ladies chain for cpls 2 & 1
25-32     Cpls  2, 1  &  3 advance and  retire, then cpl 1 turn  RH 1 ½  times to 2nd place on own side

Red House                            8 x 40 Reel
1-8        Cpl 1 set and cast off to 2nd  place, then set and cast up to original 1st  place
9-16      M1 casts off below M2, dances between cpl 2, around L2, and crosses over to own side below M2;
              L1 follows partner, finishing below L2
17-24    L1 casts up above L2, dances between cpl 2, around M2, crossing over to own side in original place;
              M1 follows partner to finish in original place.
25-32    Cpl 1 dance reel of 3 with M2 on men's side, M1 finish in 2nd place, M2 in 1st  (M1 & M2 start reel LS)
33-40    Cpl 1 dance reel of 3 with L2 on ladies’  side, L1 finish in 2nd , L2 in 1st  (L1 & L2 start reel RS)   

Moment of Truth                        8 x 32 Strathspey
1-8        Cpl 1 turn both hands and cast off one place. Dance down between cpl 3  cast up and,
              dancing through 2nd place on own sides pass left shoulder to finish facing first corners.
9-16      Turn corners and partners finishing with 1L in middle of dance in top place and 1M in middle in 3rd place.
17-22    1L reel of 3 with cpl 2  beginning giving left shoulder to M2 while M1 reels with cpl 3  beginning
               by giving left shoulder to L3.Cpl 1  finish in 2nd place on own sides. (6 bars)
23-24    Cpls 2, 1 and 3 turn partners both hands
25-28    Cpl 1 pass by the right and dance round 1st corner position while 1st corners turn each other both hands.
29-32    Repeat with 2nd corners.   

MacLeod's Fancy                    4 x 32 Jig
1-2        Cpls  1 & 4 set facing diagonally inwards
3-8        M1 & L4 turn  RH  3/4 turn, M1 dance through M4 position  & cast up to  M1 position  WHILE  L1 casts to L4 position,
              M4 casts to M1 position  &  turn RH  3/4 to original  position facing out
9-16      All dance reels of 4 on own side, finishing as though to repeat reel
17-18    M1 & M2,  L1 & L2,  M3 & M4, L3 & L4 turn RH 1/2 turn so cpls  1 & 4 are in  middle of set where they  give  LH,
              retaining  RH  hold with cpls 2 and 3  to form  cross  
19-20    All set in cross formation
21-24    M1 & M2, L1 & L2, M3 & M4, L3 & L4 turn RH  once around,
              releasing  hands on 23 so cpl 1 dance to position  3 and cpl 4  to  position  2, M1 & L4 polite turn.  Order is now 2,4,1,3
25-26    Cpls  4 & 1 join nearer hands on side, set to partner
27-28    Cpls  4 & 1 cross to opposite sides, L retain hold, Ladies turn away, Men toward each other
29-32    Cpl 4 join RH, lead up between cpl 2 , cross over and cast to 2nd place; cpl 1 join  LH, lead down between cpl 3,
              cross over to own side and cast to 3rd place


Festival Fling                        8 x 32 Reel
1-8        Cpl 1 set, cross by the right, cast 2 places and dance up to face first corners.Cpl2 step up on 5-6
9-12      Cpl 1 set to first corners, change places  giving right hand. M2 and L3 pass left shoulders to finish back to back in the                            middle  facing M3 and L2
13-16    L2 and L3 and M2 and M3 set and change places gicing right hand. L2 and M3 pass left shoulders to finish back to back                        facing M1 and L1.
17-20    Repeat once more finishing with Cpl 1 back to back in the middle facing opposite sides as for double triangles
21-24    Cpls 2, 1 and 3 set as in double triangles then cpls 2 and 3 dance on one place clockwise while Cpl 1 dance round each                        other with 2 pas de basque to face down. L1 is on left of M1
25-32    Cpl 1 dance down between Cpl 3 , cast up around them, dance up between Cpl 2 and cast to finish in 2nd place

Miss Milligan’s Strathspey                    8 x 32 Strathspey
1-4         Cpls 1 and 2 dance 4 hands once round finishing cpl 1  facing down, cpl 2  facing up nearer hands joined
5-6         Cpls 1 and 2 set,  cpl 1  turning in to face up
7-8         Cpl 1 cast off to 2nd place while cpl 2  dance up to first place and face out
9-16       Reels of 3 on own sides joining hands where possible
17-18    Cpls 2, 1 and 3 set
19-20    Cpls 2 and 1 turn by the left ½ way to finish facing down
21-24    Cpl 1 followed by cpl 2  lead down, cross below cpl 3  and cast original place
25-32    Cpls 1 and 2 dance the Knot.

Ian Powrie's Farewell to Auchterarder            128 Jig; Square set.
1-8               All dance 8 hands round and back.
9-24            Ladies dance in front of partner, behind next man into RH across once round, in front of opposite  man,
                    behind next man and  RH across to partner.
25-32         All promenade clockwise round set to original places.
33-40         Cpls  1 & 3 dance behind cpl to left, L around L, M around M to face them; all set; turn RH round
41-48         Reels of four across set.
49-56         Cpls 1 & 3 dance fig. 8 around side couples.
57-64         Cpls 1 & 3 dance LH across; exit and track back to original place
65-96         Cpls 2 & 4 repeat bars 33-64.
97-104       All promenade counterclockwise to original places.
105-120     Men repeat bars 9-24, LH across to original places.
121-128     All circle 8 hands round to right, back to left

Peat Fire Flame    8 x 40 Reel
1-6        Cpl 1 cast, dance half a figure of 8 around cpl 2  finishing in 2nd place on opposite side.
7-8        Cpl 1 turn by the left to face 1st corners.
9-12      Cpl 1 turn corners by the right , pass each other by the right to face 2nd corners.
13-16    Cpl 1 turn 2nd corners by the left, pass each other by the left to face 1st corners again.
17-20    Dance half reel of 4 with first corners, pass each other left.
21-24    Dance half reel of 4 with second corners finishing facing first corners.
25-28    Set to 1st corners, dance round each other to the right to face 2nd corners.
29- 32   Set to 2nd corners, dance round each other to the right to 2nd place on the sides, man facing out on the ladies’ side and                     lady facing out on the men’s side.
33-36    Cpls 2 and 3 dance half rights and lefts while cpl 1 cast to their right to the top and bottom and into the center of the set.
37-40    Cpl 1 turn by the right 1 1/4 while cpls 2 and 3 turn by the right.
INTERMISSION


Shiftin' Bobbins                    8  x 32 reel
1-4        Cpl 1 cross to join hands with cpls 2 & 3 as in double triangles (cpl 2  moving up), all set
5-8        Cpl 1 cast up on opposite side, meet and dance down the middle into
9-12       L1 right hands across with M2 and  M3; M1 left hands across with L2 and  L3
13-16    Cpl 1, followed by cpls 2 & 3, dance down the middle for four
17-24    Cpl 3 dance up the middle, putting out offside hand to go into hands across
25-28    Cpl 1 meet in middle and dance up, cast off to 2nd place on opposite side
29-32    Cpl 1 dance half fig 8 around cpl 2 to finish in 2nd place

John of Bon Accord                        8 x 32  Reel
1-4        Cpl 1 with L2 half reel of three right shoulder.
5-8        Cpl 1 with M2 half reel of three left shoulder.
9-12      Cpl 1 with L3 half reel of three right shoulder.
13-16    Cpl 1 with M3 half reel of three left shoulder.
17-20    Cpl 1 turn by the right, cast up 1 place on own side, Cpl 3 step down on 19-20.
21-24    Cpl 1 half fig. 8 around standing Cpl 2.
25-28    Cpls 2,1,3 turn partners RH 3/4 round finishing  in line up and down the dance facing partners and retaining RH. All set.
29-32    Cpls 2,1,3 turn partners RH to finish on own sides; join hands and set to partners.

Gang the Same Gate    8 x 32 Strathspey
1-4        Cpl 1 cross by the right and cast into 3rd place. Cpls 2 and 3 move up.
5-8        Cpl 1 cross by the right and cast up to 2nd place. Cpl 3 step down.
9-10      Cpl 1 set advancing to face first corners.
11-12    Cpl 1 turn first corners both hands and finish facing second corners.
13-16    Cpl 1 dance ½ reel of four with second corners then pass by the left pulling right shoulders back to finish man in middle in                    top place facing down and woman in middle in third place facing up.
17-18    Cpl 1 set advancing to face 2nd corners.
19-20    Cpl 1 turn 2nd corners both hands to finish facing first corners.
21-24    Cpl 1 dance half reel of four with first corners. At end cpl 1  curve into 2nd place on opposite sides.
25-26    Cpls  2,  1 and 3 set
27-28    Link for three.
29-30    Set facing up and down.
31-32    Link for three.       

Balgeddie Reel                    5 x 32 Reel
1-4        M1 and M3 pas de basque, turn on spot hands on hips
5-8        L1 and L3 dance toward partner then away
9-16      L1 & L3 followed by M1 & M3 cast 1 place, dance up between couple, cast on men's side, side couples moving up, curve                    around to take right hands with first corner, joining left hands
17-24    Balance in line, dance to 2nd corners, balance in line, cpls 1 &3 half turn into
25-32    Rt hands across, ladies up, men down, side couples in; cpls 1 & 3  half turn by left cast off 1 place, side couples moving up

Napier’s Index                    8 x 40 Jig
1-8         Cpl 1 set and cast. Turn by the left 1 1/4 to finish in balance in line position with 1st  corners
9-10      Cpl 1 and 1st  corners balance in line
11-14    Cpl 1 and 1st corners turn by the right to finish back in balance in line position
15-16    Cpl 1 and 1st  corners balance in line
17-24    Cpl 1 dance reels of three on sides with corners, cpl 1 giving left shoulder to 2nd corner to begin and finishing between 2nd               corners with left hands joined and giving right hands to 2nd corners
25-32    Cpl1 and 2nd corners repeat 9-16
33-40    Cpl 1 dance reels of three across the dance, cpl 1 giving left shoulder to partner’s 1st corner to begin. On 39-40 cpl 1, giving               right hands, cross over while cpls 2 and 3 curve into place

Culla Bay                    4 x 32 Strathspey
1-4         M1 and L3 and L1 and M3  turn by the right ½ way round to face each other, then pulling right shoulders back, cast out to                    opposite places and remain facing out
5-8        Cpls 1 and 3 continue dancing clockwise one place round the set, curving in to finish facing back to back in the center of                    the set, cpl 1 facing 4th place and cpl 3 facing 2nd place.    Meanwhile cpls 2 and 4 repeat bars 1-4 . On bars 7-8, L1 and L2,                M1 and M2 , L3 and L4 and M3 and M4 dance in a curve round each other to new places, passing right shoulder.
9-16       All dance reels of 4 across the set.
17-20    Cpls 1 and 2 and at the same time cpls 3 and 4 , dance 4 hands once round to the left.
21-24    Joining nearer hands with partner,all set, then cpls 1and 2 and, at the same time,cpls 3 and 4,dance right hands across ½ way.
25-28    Cpls 2 and 4 dance left hands across once round, to finish facing out.
29-32    Cpls 2 and 4, passing cpls 1and 3 by the right shoulder, dance out and progress on one place clockwise to finish with cpl  2                in 1st place and  cpl 4 in 3rd place. now progressed one place anti-clockwise round the set.
 
Montgomeries'  Rant                        8 x 32 Reel
1-8        Cpl 1 cross RH, cast (Cpl 2 moving up), cross LH, L1 casting up M1 casting down.
9-16      Reels of 3 across the dance, L1 with Cpl 2, M1 with Cpl 3 finishing facing L2, nearer hands joined.
17-24    Cpl 1 set to L2, turn inward, set to M3, turn, set to L3, turn inward to set to M2 finishing ready for:
25-32    Reels of 3 on opposite side, right shoulder to 2nd corner; cross to 2nd place on last two bars.
               Repeat  having passed a couple.

Mairi's Wedding                        8 x 40 Reel
1-8        Cpl 1 turn RH and cast on own sides, turn  by left to face 1st corners
9-12      Dance a half reel of 4 with 1st corners
13-16    Dance a half reel of 4 with 2nd corners
17-20    Dance a half reel of 4 with 1st corners
21-24    Dance a half reel of 4 with 2nd corners                        
25-32    Reels of 3 across, M down, L up left shoulder to start
33-40    Dance 6 hands round and back
