Text Box: Taylor Adams was admitted to the ICU at Columbus Medical Center on Tuesday, 3 April 2007. Her initial diagnosis was Spinal meningitis. On Thursday, 5 April, she was diagnosed with Fusobacterium necrophorum.
This bacterium is very rare with only 400 cases confirmed world-wide since 1940. This disease in not communicable and the doctors might never know how Taylor was infected. The good news is that this disease responds to treatment with antibiotics. Taylor will likely be in the hospital to 6 to 8 weeks.

After a great rest and a few days with her friends in Columbus, Taylor is back in Atlanta. Taylor has started her outpatient therapy at Scottish Rite and this will continue this for 6 to 8 weeks depending on her progress. We are staying at a Ronald McDonald House adjacent to the hospital.

Taylor is moving her legs really well although she is still not able to actually lift either foot off the ground with either leg. Despite this she has made major progress. Taylor is still battling pain and her vision is not good. Right now she is considered legally blind.

GOD BLESS EVERYONE, YOUR PRAYERS HAVE GOT US TO WHERE WE ARE NOW. KEEP YOUR PRAYERS GOING FOR TAYLOR'S EYES. T HANK YOU ALL FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU ALL HAVE DONE FOR OUR FAMILY.

We are breaking out of this place on June 29th, and we will be staying at home in Columbus through July 4th. We will return to Scottish Rite Hospital for outpatient rehab early on July 5.

They are suppose to have a room at the Ronald McDonald house adjacent to Scottish Rite.

Taylor did have her kidney operation on Tuesday. Surgeons removed a large kidney stone which was stuck in Taylor’s urethra. The surgeons also places a stint in her left kidney so she can more easily pass the rest of her kidney stones.

The surgeon said it would have taken several hours to pick all of Tay’s kidney stones out. In four months, he will remove the stint in her left kidney and put one in her right kidney so she can more easily pass stones in her right kidney. The surgeon will do an ultrasound in four months to be sure that none of the remaining stones have increased in size. Taylor did really well with the surgery and everything went as good as it could.

Tuesday morning the Scottish Rite Bus took all of the teenagers to the Hard Rock Cafe for a live concert, free food and drinks for the kids and parents. We really had a good time, it was nice to get out with Taylor for the first time in many, many months. Taylor's eyesight is still the same, no improvements.

THANKS FOR THE CONTINUED PRAYERS AND SUPPORT! GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Taylor is going to undergo surgery within the next 2 weeks in order to remove the 1 kidney stone from her urethra tube and to remove several stones from her right kidney.

The eye doctor came back in Thursday and said that he did not feel her eyesight would improve beyond where it is now.

Taylor also had her hearing tested on Thursday. She is unable to hear most sounds in her right ear( just very loud sounds), but her left ear is normal.

Taylor's eye sight and hearing loss was caused by nerve damage from the meningitis. Nothing can be done about this. On the good note, however, Tay is moving both of her legs slightly in the direction towards walking. All of the muscles that she needs for walking are working, even though this movement is slight it is a very positive sign that her nerves are starting to fire.

We will probably be here another 3 to 4 weeks—it depends on how quickly Taylor recovers from the operation to remover her kidney stones.

Our plans are to stay home in Columbus after being released for a month or two. Taylor will do some rehab in Columbus until she can get a room at the Ronald McDonald near Scottish Rite in Atlanta. When she is able to get a room, Taylor and Teresa will return to Atlanta for outpatient therapy at for 6 to 8 weeks. Her therapy will then be from Monday through Friday 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. They will be home in Columbus on the weekends.

PLEASE KEEP THE PRAYERS GOING FOR TAYLOR'S EYES.

GOD BLESS EVERYONE OF YOU !

YOUR PRAYERS AND SUPPORT HAVE GOTTEN OUR FAMILY TO WHERE WE ARE NOW!
THANK YOU ALL!

Taylor sees a lot of doctors and specialists here the Scottish Rite Hospital. A doctor that specializes in treating pain has been added to this list as well as one that specializes in Upper GI issues.
Taylor had another MRI Thursday (June 7th) which revealed that the extent of Tay’s brain swelling decreased just a little, but the inflammation surrounding her spinal cord was still significant. All of Tay’s doctors have gotten together and have decided to try some different medications to address these problems. It will take about a week to see what progress, if any, is being made with the new medications.
Taylor is doing her rehab as well as she can, and she is making progress. Her vision is still about the same, but her vision is likely being effected by her brain swelling. When this swelling finally dissipates we are hopeful that her vision will return to normal.
We just have to wait for the swelling to go down…
THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR CONTINUING PRAYERS FOR OUR TAY AND OUT FAMILY!
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Taylor passed her “swallow test” today! No more feeding tube soon! She will start on liquids tonight, and some soft foods Thursday. This evening Taylor got to enjoy a Sprite and some animal crackers. This has lifted all of our spirits. Tay has been so desperate for some real food. This is a great leap forward for Taylor.
PRAISE THE LORD! THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY FOR ALL OF YOUR CONTINUING SUPPORT AND PRAYERS. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Taylor is in a regular routine as for as rehab goes and she is showing some signs of improvement.
Tay is staying elevated on the lift table at almost straight up now while she is able to keep her blood pressure at acceptable levels.
Today Taylor also rolled both of her legs slightly, which is something she has not done while we have been here.
Taylor's eye sight has not improved any while we have been here. The rehab team said that Taylor will be here at least 4 to 6 more weeks receiving inpatient care at Scottish Rite. After this, they want her to stay in Atlanta for another 4 to 6 weeks in order to receive outpatient care.
Teresa and I have been put on a waiting list for the Ronald McDonald House which is located adjacent to Scottish Rite.
Tuesday morning, Taylor will be fitted for a wheelchair to bring home with her, not that she will be in it for the rest of her life. The length of time that she will need the aid of the wheelchair will require time to determine. We feel that Tay will walk when she leaves Atlanta.
Taylor is still battling pain, and will be until all the inflammation in her spine clears up.

TAYLOR CONTINUES TO ASK FOR SPRITE AND FOOD EVERY DAY AND WE HAVE TO TELL HER THAT SHE CANNOT HAVE ANYTHING BY MOUTH AS YET UNTIL SHE IS ABLE TO SWALLOW CORRECTLY. PLEASE PRAY FOR HER TO PASS THE “SWALLOW TEST” THIS TIME, SO THAT HER FEEDING TUBE CAN BE REMOVED AND SHE CAN BEGIN TO HAVE FOOD BY MOUTH. THIS TEST WILL BE GIVEN WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY THIS WEEK.
WE LOVE EVERYONE OF YOU, AND WE CANNOT SAY ENOUGH HOW MUCH OUR FAMILY THANKS ALL OF YOU.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL, OUR PRAYERS ARE WITH EACH OF YOU.
