The 2010 edition of Field Day is quickly approaching.  After volunteering as FD Chairman, I find myself very busy for a change and won't be putting a lot of effort in chairing.  Since we've done Field Day for quite a few years, I think just instructing everyone to "bring what you've always brought" should be good enough.

That being said, I will make the usual list of items we normally have so to not leave anything out.  Please email me these things.....

1. Will you participate?  When?  Put up?  Take down?  Operate?  ETC?
2.  Will you bring your usual items?  What are they?

Last year there was interest in PSK31 operation, so this year we plan to operate as class 2A.  Our plans are for our second transmitter to be dedicated to digital modes, mostly PSK31  I expect.  If you have never operated this mode, you will enjoy it.  It is a low power mode (<20 watts) with amazing range.  All contacts will count as 2 points.

As a bonus for 2A classification, we can have a "free" VHF/UHF station that will not count as an extra transmitter.  I plan to set up this station with my IC-706 and a KMA Log Periodic antenna @ about 40 feet.  The rotator will most likely be an ArmStrong but hopefully we'll make some good contacts.  There's been some good 6 meter openings lately, so it looks good for Field Day.

Last year our group really enjoyed the hamburger dinner on Saturday night that Steve and Ginger served.  Several members mentioned that we should have a cookout every Field Day.  This year, we plan something even bigger and better.  We will have a catered meal of BBQ on Saturday night.  This BBQ and fixin's will be prepared by Patrick Cleghorne from Badin.  Patrick is KE4KQQ's neighbor and is a professional BBQ'er.  Bill says his deserts ain't bad either.  By the way, for you guys coming in at midnight on Saturday, I'll see that we save some plates for you.

We need as accurate a count as possible of those planning to take part in this BBQ dinner.  Patrick needs to know how much to prepare and we need to know what our costs will be.  Please tell me:

1. Will you attend the BBQ dinner
2. How many people will you have with you?

At our next club meeting, I will make a motion that the club spend $X to feed X number of people.  If our number of eaters is exceptionally large, I may suggest members pay a certain amount to help offset the costs.  We should be able to quickly discuss this at the meeting and come to an agreement that everyone can live with.

Respond to this email as quickly as you can and I'll keep a tally.   What I plan to bring is this:
1- The complete VHF station
2- two HF dipole-type antennas
3- two or three long pieces of coax
4- antenna launcher (if I get it back from Bill)
5- a wireless remote speaker for the HF station
6- Sue, my second cousin from Nebraska

Subject: [Ncares-admin] Change in SEC

Bernie Nobles, WA4MOK, has resigned as Section Emergency Coordinator (SEC) and Tom Brown, N4TAB, has agreed to serve as his replacement.

Bernie served as SEC since 2003 and indicated he wanted to spend more time with family.  During his term ARES made great strides in improving the ICS credentialing of county ECs , streamlining relations with state agencies and upgrading digital EmCOMM applications through Winlink.  He provided steady leadership during a time of tremendous technological and organizational change, and we wish him and his wife, Phyllis, well.

Tom has served as Assistant Section Emergency Coordinator (ASEC) for the Central Branch, and has been instrumental in improving Amateur Radio response capability at the state Emergency Operations Center (EOC).  A strong proponent of interoperability, Tom will expand integration of Amateur Radio in the state’s emergency communications plans.

We appreciate Bernie’s accomplishments and we welcome Tom as North Carolina ARES moves towards 21st century EmCOMM solutions.

73,
Bill Morine N2COP
ARRL North Carolina Section Manager

Ladies & Gentlemen, It is with my dismay that I have resigned the position of NC SEC, due to family commitments, and various other reasons. It has been a pleasure to work with all of you during the past seven years, and all of you have made a lot of progress over the last few years with everyone working hard to make NC ARES one of the best. Whoever takes the position as NC SEC I wish them the best, and hope they will lead NC ARES into the 21st century. My resignation was affective as of June 4, 2010.  Besides my family amateur radio will always be a big part of my life and NC ARES.

Thanks to All 73

Bernard Nobles WA4MOK

Thanks Bernie (WA4MOK) for your efforts over the last 10 years as service as the S.E.C.  Myself and folks in the
Western Branch will certainly miss you.  Good luck to you in your future endeavors.

Tom (N4TAB),  Welcome aboard.

Eating Meeting April 22, 2010  Named and Location
Field Day decisions

To:
members@k4ogb.org

Guys,

I will take it upon myself to inform those, not at last night's meeting, that the April Eating Meeting will take place at Pancho Villas Restaurant, Hwy 52 North, in Albemarle.  This is in the building previously occupied by Blue Bay.

Although a Mexican restaurant, they have steaks, pork, chicken, fish and other things.  Most are with somewhat a Mexican flare but all are good and not necessarily spicy.  I think I have eaten at least half of what's on their menu and I've liked it all.  I can post their menu on the club web site if desired.  The time is 6:30pm, April 22nd.  April 1 is on Thursday so our meeting date is a little earlier than normal.

Since no business will be discussed at the April meeting, we tossed around a few ideas for this year's Field Day event last nigh.  I volunteered to be the Field Day Coordinator this year.  This job is easy for me because it will consist of simply "BRING WHAT YOU BROUGHT LAST YEAR".  I will try to take it upon myself to eliminate the RF problems we had last year.

We are going to try a couple things this year that should make FD enjoyable for everyone, even those that don't want to talk on the radio.  Here's what we thought:

1-  Once again use the park at Oakboro.

2-  Operate a class 2A station.  We plan to set up a dedicated Digital Station.
This station can run CW, PSK or other digital modes.

3-  Operating class 2A allows us to set up a dedicated VHF/UHF station that
doesn't count as an extra transmitter.  I will personally take care of this equipment for 50-500 MHz.

4-  We will have a catered meal on Saturday evening.  There are a few ideas on how/who to do this,
but the consensus is that we will have "someone else" do it.  This meal will be open to all club
and family members and perhaps paid for by the club.  You don't even have to come participate
in Field Day.... but if you only come to eat, we will snicker and talk behind your back about it ;-)

5-  If anyone has ideas for FD please pass them along.  If it's something do-able that most
everyone will enjoy, we may give it a try.

More later,
Ed

Amateur Radio Operators are invited to learn how to employ Depiction before and during emergencies to enhance their planning and response capabilities. David Friedman, KE7GOY, an Amateur Radio Operator and emergency response volunteer, and retired Navy Captain Kim Buike of Depiction, Inc., will demonstrate how Friedman used Depiction to coordinate rescue operations during 2008 winter floods in the Seattle area, as described in the November 2009 edition of QST magazine. They will also show how Amateur Radio Operators can use the latest version of the software to do the same.

Hello all,
I just received a phone call from a person identifying themselves as with "Consumer Rewards" telling me my phone number had been selected to receive $400.00 in Wal-Mart gift cards.  He assured me there was no catch, all I had to do was pay $3.95 Shipping and Handling.  Of course then he wanted my credit or debit card number.  He already had my name, address, and phone number.

This is obviously a scam.  DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY FINANCIAL INFORMATION TO ANYONE CALLING YOU WITH SUCH OFFERS.  Remember, if it seems too good to be true it probably is.

This is for real, it just happened to me.  Pass this along to let others know that this scam is out there.

NEW NC SECTION MANAGER ELECTED

My four years as your ARRL Section Manager have been the most rewarding experience of my 33 years in Amateur Radio. But expanding work responsibilities and a couple of over-active kids make it hard for me to devote enough time to the important work we've doing in the North Carolina section. But the section will be in good hands when my term expires. On December 10, Bill Morine, N2COP, our current Section Public Information Coordinator was declared the next NC Section Manager, running unopposed in the election. Bill's term begins April 1.

Bill was first licensed in 1970 as WN1NOP and got his General and his current call of N2COP in 1981 while living in New Jersey. Bill became an Extra in 2001. Bill is a life member of ARRL and QCWA. He and XYL Pam have two sons: Reid, W4RSM, and Grant, W4GHM, who was named Young Ham Of The Year in 2007. Bill became an ARRL Public Information Officer (PIO) in 2000, was named section Public Information Coordinator (PIC) in 2004, and became a member of ARRL's national Public Relations Committee in 2005. Bill has served as chairman of the national PR committee since 2008. He is an Assistant EC in New Hanover County (Wilmington) and is also an ARRL and W4VEC Volunteer Examiner. Bill has worked extensively with Boy Scouts, and served on the staff of K2BSA at the 2001 and 2005 National Jamborees. He has helped over 1,800 Boy Scouts earn the Radio Merit badge, and has helped over 300 Scouts and Scout leaders nationally and in North Carolina get licensed. He served as the first chairman of CARES, the Carolinas Amateur Radio Emergency Services, from 2001 to 2006, implementing a 220 MHz network in southeastern North Carolina dedicated to public health traffic in disasters. Since 2008, he has served as head of communications for the Beach 2 Battleship triathlon, the only full iron distance (140.6 miles over 17 hours) triathlon in the Roanoke Division. Bill and his wife run an independent financial planning practice in Wilmington.

The North Carolina Section is fortunate to have so many strong leaders like Bill and I know you will join me in supporting him as he assumes his new and challenging responsibilities.

WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, CW WORKS!

Running our section SSB nets has been a big challenge since we returned to standard time. The band frequently goes long soon after sunset and while Midwest stations boom in, it's hard to hear others in North Carolina. There have been several Tarheel nets with NO check-ins because of poor band conditions. So I've been occasionally checking into our section CW nets to get my "net fix" and polish my rusty fist. I've been amazed at how often I've listened to a struggling SSB net only to move to the CW frequencies to find a full net with perfectly readable stations from all over the state. It's a reminder of the effectiveness of CW even in poor conditions.

Joel Hallas, W1ZR, wrote an interesting article about CW for the May, 2007 QST. According to Joel, CW has major advantages over voice and other modes. CW has much lower bandwidth than SSB. How well we can receive a signal is specified by its signal to noise ratio (SNR). If we change our receive filter from 2.5kHz for voice to 250Hz for CW we reduce the received noise power by a factor of 10. That's equivalent to 2 S-units improvement in SNR. To gain the same SNR improvement with SSB we would need to increase the transmit power from 100w to 1000w! With a higher SNR for CW, it's much easier to detect a weak CW signal than a weak voice signal. A good CW operator can copy code at or below the noise level. To copy voice it takes a minimum of 3-5 dB SNR. Because of the narrower bandwidth, five or more CW stations can fit into the space one SSB signal can fit. But what's this all mean? It means your CW signal can usually get through when your voice signal cannot. Your 100w CW transmitter can get to places that your neighbor's 2000w voice transmitter can't!

So try one of our CW nets some night when you're struggling to copy the net control for an SSB net. A great place to start is with the Carolina Slow Net, which meets nightly at 8pm on 3.571MHz. Helpful info on the net can be found at http://bellsouthpwp2.net/r/g/rg_burns/index.htm.

“Turn out the lights the Party’s Over”

If you missed the Christmas Party at the Blue Bay Seafood you missed a good time.  Everyone really enjoy OUR Clubs get together.

Positive note was we had 24 folks committed to the event and had 26 folks that showed up. So we were plus two, that always good news to be in the plus column.  Lee (WA4ALZ) was not able to make it but the prayer was led by Jeff (KJ4GZE), good job Jeff.  Thanks to Don (AE4AH) for obtain and setting up the restaurant for us.  If you missed our November club meeting, you probably don’t know about the big picture,  two of these Big Pictures were donated as door prizes.  They were photographs taken by Don on his and Jeans recent trip to France.  Let’s just say they were Big Picture and both were frame able.  Thanks to Austin and Cooper for helping out with Santa.

We had an excellent waitress’s staff and lot of fun.   After eating our meal, the club celebrated a club member Birthday, Larry (KF4HOP).  Our first sing along by our waitress’s leading us in the famous Happy Birthday song.  The song still echo’s in my mind.  Santa was scheduled to be there but his agent called and said that he was over booked; Santa was flying United Air Ways from California with a 11:50 PM arrival time so I stepped in to cover for him.  The waitress’s again lead us in song a typical old Christmas sing along Song “Here Comes Santa Clause” but the song was cut short because as our aged members could not remember all the words.

Closing Song was after our favorite Basketball team “ My Old Kentucky Home” I was the only one that was singing.  I made that part up.  Until next year, why don’t you come up and see us sometime.

STATE ARES MEETING NOTES

We had a big turnout at the state ARES meeting in Morganton on October 17. Thanks to Paul, KD4OZI and Michelle, KD4YTU for hosting the event.  There was extensive discussion on the topic of training requirements for ARES members. The federal government established the "National Incident Management System" in 2001 and local agencies are required to be compliant with NIMS in order to secure federal funding.  Radio amateurs and other volunteers
who work with emergency management need to be familiar with NIMS and FEMA has developed an online training program.  An email poll of other section managers conducted by N4IB indicated that only a couple of sections have made NIMS training mandatory for ARES membership.  Some sections have
instituted two levels of members in ARES - "active" and "reserve" or other similar terms - to differentiate between trained and untrained members.  Most sections still have no training requirements, although everyone is encouraged to complete NIMS training.  The consensus of the group at our meeting was to establish two levels of ARES membership.  One tier would be for amateurs who had completed the NIMS training required by state emergency management. These "trained" members would be the first deployed and in most cases the only amateurs we could send to EOC's, shelters and other served agency locations. They would also be the ooly members eligible for a field assignment outside their local jurisdiction.  ARES "untrained" members would be used for support assignments, such as serving as liaison stations, and we would encourage these ARES members to become fully trained as soon as possible.  A key component of this plan is a
section-wide ARES database that would include contact information for each member and allow us to track their training certifications.  Our Section Emergency Coordinator, Bernie Nobles, WA4MOK, is working with the rest of your section ARES leadership on the details of this proposal, including the list of training requirements.  All required training will be available online at no cost.

Former Section Manager John Covington, W4CC, presented a draft of his study on Packet Radio and North Carolina ARES.  After further revision, his paper will be posted at www.ncarrl.org.  As you might expect, Winlink is already playing
a key role in our section.  Assistant SEC Tom Brown, N4TAB, discussed the Winlink system installed at the branch EOC's
and the big success we had using Winlink during the earthquake drill in western North Carolina in June, as well as the
SET earlier this month.

The state ARES meeting included discussion on the ICS-213 message form and how it should be used in ARES.  We're still looking for leadership from ARRL on how to incorporate the ICS-213 form into NTS, but its use is required by state emergency management.  We're using a modified ICS-213 form for handling messages on the Tarheel Emergency Net.  An "operator's notes" section can be added to include information such as message number, precedence, check, and station
of origin.

ARLX005 IARU Region 2 and Radio Club de Chile Request Amateurs to
Keep Emergency Frequencies Clear

A massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake hit Chile at 0634 UTC on February
27, 2010, triggering a potential tsunami. IARU Region 2 and the Red
Chilena Nor Austral de Servicio (RECNA) have suggested Amateur Radio
operators monitor the following emergency communications frequencies
for traffic pertaining to the earthquake and tsunami: 3.738, 3.750,
7.050, 7.100, 14.200, 14.350, 21.200, 21.350, 28.300 and 28.500 MHz.

IARU Region 2 Area Emergency Coordinator Jorge Sierra, LU1AS,
reports that there is now traffic at frequencies of 40 meters from
people seeking information from people in Chile: "We would
appreciate if amateurs would leave free the frequencies used by
RECNA, as well as the usual IARU Region 2 frequencies on in 20, 40,
and 80 meters."

In addition to the above frequencies, you may also want to listen to
the worldwide emergency communication Center of Activity
frequencies: 14.300, 18.160 and 21.360 MHz. Other suggested
monitoring frequencies are 3.720, 7.045 and 7.060 MHz. Hawaiian
Amateur Radio operators on the lookout for a possible tsunami are
monitoring 7.088 and 3.888 MHz.

Gentlemen, Tom has advised me that State EM is on a level 4 activation, which puts ARES on standby, but this may change depending upon the severity of the storm. If there are any activations in any area, please let everyone know through the email list server.

I would like to see the meaning of the different levels of activations put on the state ares page, which can be found on the Wake Co
Ares  page. Now that page does list frequencies just for that area, and they should be taken out for the state level, but list the
Tarheel Net frequencies.

Depending upon the severity of this storm the Tarheel Net may be needed, so if any area needs the net up, please send out a request on
the email list server then we can activate the net.

Mark, would you please think about some volunteers for net control if we are needed, if not then our regular schedule will take place.
We may need a prolong session for the net on Friday night, so all be prepared.

I will in & out of home tomorrow, but will be available by cell phone, the number is below just in case you didn't already have it.

Good Luck to All
Thanks 73

[Ncares-admin] EmComm House Bill HR 2160

Saturday, December 26, 2009 12:48 PM

To:
"NC Amateur Radio Emergency Service email list" <ncares-admin@rtpnet.org>, "SmithChart" <smithchart@yahoogroups.com>, "rars" <rars-l@rtpnet.org>
The EmComm bill that passed the US Senate last week, S1755, is headed back to the US House Committee on Energy & Commerce.

-While it's great that it passed, the original EmComm bill HR 2160 has sat in this House committee since 04/29/2009, with no action. Don't know why. But, this House committee will have to pass the bill, before it can move to the House floor for a vote. And, then for a reconciliation with the Senate version (but they are virtually identical in language.)
-
Fortunately, NC has two Congressmen who are members of this House committee.
-Rep GK Butterfield
from District 1 - it's a weird shaped district that covers Henderson, Ahoskie, Edenton, Greenville and parts of the counties where Little Washington and Havelock are.
-Rep Sue Myrick (you should know her as former mayor of Charlotte). Her district seems to be most of Union and Gaston counties (but none of Mecklenburg).

-As the ARRL State Government Liaison for North Carolina, I'm encouraging the constituent members to write to these Representatives.

Remember when writing to be respectful and brief, as we're asking them to do us a favor.

And passage of this bill will be great for Amateur  Radio in many ways.
-

-To find the email (and snailmail) address of your congressman, go to https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/

-A sample letter for Representative Butterfield or Myrick might read:

 Dear Honorable ..,

As a constituent and supporter, I am writing to ask your support for the Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Act of 2009 HR 2160. As you know, the Senate version of this bill S1755, passed the Senate unanimously. The House version HR 2160 was originally introduced in the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, of which you are a member. The bill acknowledges the contribution of FCC licensed amateur radio operators in providing essential communications (at no cost to the government and purely voluntarily) in times of natural disasters, such as hurricanes, earthquakes, ice storms and floods. Upon passage, the Bill would direct the Department of Homeland Security to undertake a study on emergency communications. S 1755 points out that "There is a strong Federal interest in the effective performance of Amateur Radio Service stations, and that performance must be given -- (A) support at all levels of government; and (B) protection against unreasonable regulation and impediments to the provision of the valuable communications provided by such stations."

Sincerely,

 Your Name and Callsign

If you are not in Districts 1 or 9, please write your Congressman/woman, and ask that they co-sponsor and/or support HR 2160. Write as an individual citizen and not as a member of ARRL or a specific radio club. Feel free to note the disasters you have paricipated in. Edit the above letter as needed.

Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a happy, safe and prosperous New Year.

OK Guys and Ladies........................  You asked for it, now here it
is.............

Please let Chris know if you will be attending. He needs a count and space
is limited to 30 or so.

He is also opening this up to the Rowan Co. Club members. I've decided to
wait til later this evening to forward it to them to give the Cabarrus Co.
members first shot at it.
DO not delay..............   his e-mail is at the bottom of the announcement.

Good Luck,
Sam

Just a reminder...............................
The Concord Christmas Parade will be this Sat. (Nov. 21). There will be a Fun Run that starts about 2:00pm, and the parade should start at 2:30. We probably need to e in the area of downtown around 1:15 - 1:30 or so. If you have helped before, you know it gets crowded fairly early.  This also lets Kenneth know who is where, and we can make last minute adjustments to the positions if needed.

I talked to Kenneth this morning, and we still need 2-3 more people to help out. If you are able to help, and weren't at the meeting, please call him and let him know.
His cell number is 704-490-1607. Or you can catch Jackie on the radio and he can get a message to him.
Again, this is the most exposure we get in front of the public all year........  Let's make sure we put our best foot forward, and have a good turn-out.
I hope to talk to you there.

 Greetings,
Charlotte Area Skywarn and the National Weather Service out of Greenville SC will be putting on a Basic and Advanced SKYWARN class this Saturday at 1000 and should last until approximately till 1300 hrs at the EH DOLE Red Cross chapter 1930 Jake Alexander Blvd W.  This is open to any and all, and there is no cost to attend.  While many Skywarn spotters are Amateur Radio operators, there is an 800 number for non Hams to call to advise NWS of hazardous weather that may not be seen on NWS Radar so that conditional alerts may be announced.

Charlotte Area Skywarn site http://www.charlotteskywarn.org

What is Skywarn?

SKYWARN is a concept developed in the early 1970s that was intended to promote a cooperative effort between the National Weather Service and communities. The emphasis of the effort is often focused on the storm spotter, an individual who takes a position near their community and reports wind gusts, hail size, rainfall, and cloud formations that could signal a developing tornado. Another part of SKYWARN™ is the receipt and effective distribution of National Weatherr Service information. (See link above for more)

National Weather Service Greenville Spartanburg Skywarn site http://www.erh.noaa.gov/gsp/skywarn/skywarn.htm
A good descriptive site from the NWS out of Florida http://www.srh.noaa.gov/mfl/?n=skywarn Please pass along to anyone who you feel may be interested in this.

SIMULATED EMERGENCY TEST

The ARRL Simulated Emergency Test is a nationwide exercise in emergency communications, which gives communicators the opportunity to focus on the emergency-communications capability within their communities while interacting with NTS and other section nets. The July issue of QST included the results of the 2008 SET. Out of 71 ARRL sections, North Carolina was 6th in total SET points and second in section/local net participation! Cleveland County ARES had the highest point total among local ARES groups in our state. Congratulations and thanks to all of you for your participation! Now it's time to get ready for the 2009 SET, with the national exercise set for October 3-4.

The state ARES drill will occur on October 3 and the drill scenario will be announced on the Tarheel Emergency Net at 7:30pm on Friday, October 2. The Tarheel Emergency Net will be active on or around 3.923MHz on October 3 from 8am to 12noon to support local SET exercises scheduled on the ARRL's national SET weekend. Our regular National Traffic System (NTS) nets will be operating during the weekend on their regular schedule to provide additional support. You don't have to schedule your SET event on October 3. SET-type activities held at anytime during the fall can be counted towards our section SET score. I know fall is a busy time for public service events and one NC club plans to combine their SET with a scheduled public service event - a great idea! You may download a copy of the 2009 SET reporting forms and read the SET Guidelines on the ARRL Web Page. See http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/setguide.html for appropriate links. What a excellent NC QSO party.  The turn out was lighter then expected looks like a few expected, (expectee’s) missed because of the bad weather, lots of rain, lots of rain.  The food, Stew provided by Lane, using Ed’s (W4KMA) special patented recipe was excellent.   The cheese was very good but I missed the wine.  Lots of contact made and all that attended had a great time.  We used Ed’s, almost new Radio and it was a hit and we were hoping it was a door prize but we were wrong.  Ed listed it as a no trade, no sale item.  The radio had lots of bells and whistles.  Normally they would be lots of knob turning but the new radio appears to use more button pushing, a real neat radio and the folks enjoyed Ed bringing it for our use.  Charles our kitchen Manager must have worked as a CEO for a major Air Lines as the food was hot and on time.  Hat’s off to Lane for putting this together and for the food, drinks and the excellent facilities for us to meet, a good location in Stanly County.

Chopper Up, Bill (KC4TDC) brought his Helicopter that he talks about (a lot) and launched the helicopter in the middle of the floor (now referred to as Pad 11), good results and good demonstration of Bill’s flying ability.  Bill appeared to be a little nervous.  At the end of his flight Bill was out of breather, the group taught Bill the breath in, breath out method for a longer life.

It was really nice meeting the folks that we have not met or seen in a while.  Jeff, (KJ4GZE) just got his General ticket and Ginger (KJ4JWU) is our newest ham in Stanly County.  It always good to meet old friends and new ones.  On the Wednesday ARES/Club net lots of good comments on the QSO party and they would like to see the Club do this event on yearly bases, something to defiantly think about.  Before I close special thanks to the baking ladies, Cookies that Robin’s (WA4NLF)  mother Ruby made, Blue Berry muffins Don’s (AE4AH) wife Jean provided and special thanks to maker and baker of the pound cake and other assorted items provided by Judy, Lanes (KS4PG) wife.  I think that most of us were on the road before the snow started.

A note from Lane on our score… Results mailed.

We made 99, 2 point contacts and we had 50 multipliers for a total of 9900. We worked both W4NC and W4WS that gave us 150 bonus points. The total submitted score was
 10,050 points

The Albemarle 444.900 (444.900  +   Tone 110.9) repeater went on the air around lunch time today and is on the link system now. Initial testing shows good portable coverage along most of Hwy 24/27 between Mint Hill and Albemarle and along Hwy 73 in Cabarrus and Stanly counties. Portable coverage is excellent throughout the city limits of Albemarle. Mobile coverage looks good south to Wadesboro and west into Mecklenburg County as well. We've also had a few portable check-in's from the Richfield area as well.
