A Year as Grand Knight
I really can't remember why
I chose to be Grand Knight.
But there are times in our lives
We simply do what's right.
-
No real reason, nothing to prove
So much to gain, nothing to lose.
I won't have to deal with death and starvation
Like all those poor people in some third world nation.
-
I won't have to travel to some foreign land
Or go into war with weapon in hand.
It's only a year, no big deal
But the problems encountered were all very real.
-
The fights that I fought, through not over-seas
Were too often with people too hard to please.
These battles and conflicts encountered by me
Were lessons in patience and charity.
-
And then there were visits with sick or with dying
And hours spent with widows left crying.
Calls would come in, no mater how late
Their children were hungry like I held their fate.
-
Barefoot and sick on a cold rainy night
I had the power to make it all right.
A bag of food here, some money there
Just do what you can to show that you care.
-
Some people say what will be will be
But I'm glad the chance was offered to me.
Many see it as quite a chore
It was an opportunity to help, and so much more.
-
The only thing else I'd like to say
And I hope everyone else would pray.
If life was simple and nobody cried
No one got sick and nobody died.
-
If every little child has shoes on his feet
A coat on his back and plenty to eat.
If all that is wrong in this world were made right
There may be no need to be a Grand Knight.
