Congratulations to Keri on winning the Insurance Professional of the Year and AAMGA awards at Regional and to Ruthie for winning the Pinnacle Award! Even though the Pinnacle Award went to the association, we all know that without Ruthie’s hard work on the various projects she spearheaded that earned us the big points and her constantly “encouraging” the rest of us to earn points, we would never have had a chance to win! We look forward to getting a complete report on Regional Convention at our next meeting.
Keri, Deb, and I are going to Pittsburgh in June
– sounds likes it’s going to be a great convention, too. We’ll look
forward to reporting back to you at the June meeting.

Five catastrophes in the first quarter will cost U.S. property/casualty insurers about $963 million in claims pay outs, according to the Insurance Services Office.
Directors & Officers liability underwriting is demanding more information. New corporate governance regulations, such as the federal Sarbanes-Oxley Act, are a double edged sword for writers of D&O liability coverage, said executives at Hartford Insurance Group that specialize in writing the coverage for large financial services companies.
Poor service from insurance carriers has led to 90% of property insurance brokers to recommend that a client switch carriers, according to a survey by Allianz Global Risks US Insurance Company.
A policy holder group concerned about continued availability of terrorism coverage received assurances from the U.S. Treasury that the federal back stop does cover insured losses from nuclear, biological, and chemical events connected to acts of terrorism.
Potential health effects and symptoms associated with mold exposures include allergic reactions, asthma, and other respiratory complaints.
There is no practical way to eliminate all mold and mold spores in the indoor environment; the way to control indoor mold growth is to control moisture.
If mold is a problem in your home or business, you must clean up the mold and eliminate sources of moisture.
Fix the source of the water problem or leak to prevent mold growth.
Reduce indoor humidity (to 30-60%) to decrease mold growth by: venting bathrooms, dryers, and other moisture generating sources to the outside; using air conditioners and de-humidifiers; increasing ventilation; and using exhaust fans whenever cooking, dishwashing, and cleaning.
Clean and dry any damp or wet building materials and furnishings within 24 – 48 hours to prevent mold growth.
Clean mold off hard surfaces with water and detergent, and dry completely. Absorbent materials such as ceiling tiles, that are moldy, may need to be replaced.
Prevent condensation: Reduce the potential for condensation on cold surfaces (windows, piping, exterior walls, roof, or floors) by adding insulation.
In areas where there is a perpetual moisture problem, do not install carpeting (by drinking fountains, by sinks, or on concrete floor with leaks).
Molds can be found almost anywhere; they can grow on virtually any substance, providing moisture is present. There are molds that can grow on wood, paper, carpet, and foods.
We have all heard that Region III is the place to be. If that is true then the State of Mississippi is rocking and the Insurance Women of Southwest Mississippi is kicking!
At the Awards Luncheon during the Region III Conference our association was awarded for all of it’s hard work! Out of the seven awards given, our association took home three of them!
Insurance Professional of the Year
Keri Morrell was surprised when our RVP, Frankie Tobias, announced her name as the 2004 Region III Insurance Professional of the Year. In her acceptance speech she thanked the members of her association. Keri will go on to represent Region III at National.
Pinnacle Award Category #A
The dedication and hard work of our members was evident in the final point total for the Pinnacle Award. With a total of 3800 points our association took 1st place! Our association will go on to compete at the National level and was awarded $100 in “NAIW Bucks” to spend at the NAIW store.
AAMGA Award
The AAMGA Award is given to a deserving member of NAIW. This award is given at the state, region, and national levels. The winner at each level does not move on to the next level. There is no application for this award and it is given solely at the discretion of the presiding officer at each level. Keri Morrell won this award at the state level. We are proud to announce that she also won this award at the Region III Conference.
Keri Morrell was recognized at
the Region III conference during the Leadership Luncheon for being a new
DAE recipient.
Chris Kelly – Storbeck, NAIW National President Elect and Ruthie Phillips had a great conversation about why NAIW is the association of choice.
