First-Time Player Promotion
We want to encourage beginning and experienced backgammon players who have never attended an American Backgammon Tour tournament to enjoy the fun of a weekend of keen competition and experience the excitement that always comes with a major backgammon tournament. To this end, we have developed our First-Timer's promotional program.
A 'First-Timer' is a player who will be playing in his first ABT tournament at the 2008 Southeast Backgammon Championships.
We expect First-Timers to enter one of the three main event divisions, either the Championship, Advanced or Novice Main Event. They may consult with the tournament as to which of the three divisions is most appropriate for their skill level, but any of the three divisions are available for the first-timer.
As part of their paid main event entry they also qualify for the First-Timer's Free Roll event. This is a single-elimination tournament with 5-point matches; there is no additional entry fee for this event. Competition will begin on Sunday at 10:30AM and be completed by Sunday afternoon. 1st place = $175, 2nd place = $75.
Other attendees may 'sponsor' first-timers to this tournament. If you sponsor a new player you will receive $25 off of your main event entry fee. You may sponsor as many new players as you wish and can receive multiple discounts up to the total of your main event entry fee. However, to qualify for the sponsorship discount, your name must appear on the first-timer's PRE-REGISTERED entry form. Sponsor names cannot be added to late entries (entries received after Friday April 25, 2008.)
A first-timer may attend and play without a sponsor and will still qualify for the Free Roll event.
