March 26th 1884 - It being represented to the court that a cyclone has passed through the northern part of the County, and that some of the citizens are in a destitute condition, on account of the destruction by the cyclone, it is therefore ordered that 400 dollars of County funds be used for said sufferers, and that M. Dinsmore, W. W. Wills and James Spence be and they are hereby appointed a committee to disperse the same sum of money among the sufferers.

March 31st 1884 - I. *. Clayton having advanced 70 dollars to the committee appointed to relieve the cyclone sufferers it is ordered that an order issue in favor of I. *. Clayton to the county treasurer for the sum of $70.

April 1st 1884 - John Pool having advanced 105 dollars to the committee appointed to relieve the cyclone sufferers it is ordered that 2 orders issue in favor of John Pool to the county treasurer for the sum of $60 and one for $45.

April 1st 1884 - M. Dinsmore having advanced 25 dollars, M. Jamison $100, and M. J. Phillips $30, to the committee appointed to relieve the cyclone sufferers it is ordered that orders issue in favor of each of the above named to the county treasurer for the amount advanced.

April 1st 1884 - The committee appointed for the relief of the cyclone sufferers gave Henry Land $40.

April 1st 1884 - J. W. Rainwater, Superintendent of the Poor House, being entitled to $20 as his wages for March, and there being no funds in the hands of the treasurer was paid 2 orders

for the sum of $10 each.

April 1st 1884 - J. P. Castleberry, employed to assist J. W. Rainwater at the Pauper Farm, and his work for the month of March amounting to $13.05, and there being no funds to pay him, and he having bought supplies and promised to pay for same, request treasurer pay $9.65 and $3.40.

April 4th 1884 - W. A. Porter paid $16.80 for 4 sacks of guano for the pauper farm.

April 17th 1884 - Repair of Walker’s Bridge across Little River let out to the lowest bidder on April 19th at the bridge.

April 17, 1884 - Application made to build new bridge across Chicken Creek near residence of Marion Phillips. The matter will be looked into.

April 18th 1884 - Repair of State Bridge to be let out to lowest bidder on April 21st at the bridge.

April 19th 1884 - The cotton planted at the Pauper Farm not being a good cotton and not making a good yield, C. B. Burnett having some seed for sale, it is ordered that 10 bushels be purchased $.15 a bushel.

April 19th 1884 - Haynes bridge let for for repair April 21st

April 19th 1884 - T. E. Moore, lowest bidder for repair of Walker’s bridge across Little River for $40.

April 19th 1884 - W. H. Miller was lowest bidder $116.50 to build 60 ft. onto State Bridge

April 21st 1884 - Notice having been given, the repairing of Haynes Bridge was this day let out to the lowest bidder, and J. B. Kimbell and

R. B. Shaw being the lowest bidders, it is ordered that the contract be awarded to them at the sum of $34.

April 21st 1884 - Only one bidder was at the Long Bridge and bids are extended to the 24th.

April 21st 1884 - Guilford Landrum having taken the contract for Repairing Walker’s Bridge for the sum of $25, and having completed said repairs, it is ordered that two orders issue to the County Treasurer, one for the sum of $20 and one for $5. The reason for issuing two orders being that we have only $5.00 for paying said Landrum, which was paid to him and he taking the balance ($20) saying he could trade it.

April 24 - J. B. Kimbell and R. B. Shaw having completed the repairing of the Haynes Bridge and having associated John Cobb with them in the job, it ordered that orders to the County Treasurer in their favor in the amount of $34.

May 3rd 1884 - J. P. Castleberry two orders of $10 and $7.90 for working on the Pauper Farm

May 3rd - J. W. Rainwater entitled to $20 for April, there was only $10 available.

May 6th 1884 - Clinton Webb, Deputy Sheriff, having waiting on the Court of Ordinary for the May Term was paid $2.

May 9th 1884 - Commissioners of Cobb County having built a bridge across Willeo Creek, on the line between Cobb and Milton, and the bridge having swept away by a freshet, soon after it was built, and said commissioners through Dr. Green and J. B. Watson applied for assistance to rebuild said bridge, it is ordered that $30 of the funds of the County be applied to the rebuilding of said bridge.

May 9th 1884 - J. W. Rainwater, Superintendent of Poor House being entitled to $20 for April, it is ordered that two orders for $10 be issued.,

May 19th 1884 - C. A. Watkins hauled a box of books from Roswell Depot was paid $.25 freight.

May 20th 1884 - W. S. Paris, Jailor, paid $23 for jail fees.

May 21st 1884 - G. W. McCollum paid $34.00 for repairing Long Bridge

June 12th 1884 - J. B. Kimbell, R. B. Shaw, and Floyd Cobb having completed the repairing of Haynes Bridge and J. B. Kimbell and R. B. Shaw having received orders for their part of the same and Cobb not having received his order, it is ordered that an order issue to the County Treasurer in favor of Floyd Cobb for the sum of $4.50 in payment for repairing Haynes Bridge.

June 12th 1884 - L. M. Otwell paid express charges on two packages of book from Atlanta through Roswell to Alpharetta and was reimbursed $1.20.

June 24th 1884 - W. H. Miller having completed the State Bridge and having examined said Bridge and found that it was built according to contract, and W. H. Miller having applied for an order for $50, on the same, which order was granted, the balance due on said

bridge to remain unpaid until the amount in dispute between Miller, Perkins and Webb, is settled, and when they agree, it is ordered that orders issue on the building of said bridge to make the sum of $122.50.

June 24, 1884 - W. H. Miller paid $5 for taking care of Hannah Vaughn for one month,.

June 28th 1884 - W. H. Miller, Moses Perkins, and John Webb having settled their dispute as to the amount due each one on lumber account for the State Bridge, it is ordered that orders to pay for said bridge issue as follows: To W. H. Miller, $15.64, $15.66, $20.00 and $3.74. This is really $20 less than he built the bridge for, but John I. Teasley having advanced said Miller $20 for this amount, Miller has requested that an order be given Teasley, which will be included in the order given Teasley for the part of the bridge that he built.

May 1st 1884 - John I. Teasley awarded contract for adding 40 ft of new bridge to the west end of State Bridge $35.90.

May 30th 1884 - Examined State Bridge and determined they needed to build 40 ft on the east side of the State Bridge and John I. Teasley agreed to build for $35.90 plus the cost of benches.

July 1st 1884 - J. P. Castleberry received two orders, one for $8.80 and one for $5.80 work on the Pauper Farm.

July 4th 1884 - John I. Teasley completed 80 ft of State Bridge, $77.50 for this and $20 from W. H. Miller, $97.50 in full payment.

July 23, 1884 - W. H. Miller for $5.00 for taking care of Hannah Vaughn, colored Pauper.

July 23rd 1884 - Roswell Store paid $2.75 for powder and fuse for blasting rocks for roads.

The petition of C. W. Summerour showeth that there is a dispute about the exact line between 842nd and 1176th districts GM from a point near the residence of W. C. Kelley to the Chattahoochee River. Your petitioner therefore prays that three commissioners be appointed and instructed to fix and ascertain said line between said lines and that they be authorized and empowered to employ the services of a competent surveyor to aid them in fixing said line if necessary in accordance with the statute in such cases made and provided and your petitioner will ever pray. The commissioners and surveyor established the line between the 842nd and 1176th district GM to commence at the Chattahoochee River and run north on the west side of C. W. Summerour’s land to the old Alabama Road, thence northeast 10 ½ degrees, a straight line to the Cumming Road leading by W. C. Kelley’s where the roads fork to go to R. M. Autrey’s. Said line run and marked out. Above report made the judgment of the court.

Upon examining the list of insolvent tax payers made out from fifas returned “nulla bond” errors in digest, list of defaulters relieved, submitted by Z. T. Ramsey, Tax Collector of said County for the year 1884 and it appearing to the Court that the same is correct and true it is therefore ordered that the said Z. T. Sargeant on the Jones Ferry Road and running an easterly direction and by the residence of Mrs. Delany Brown, T.M. and T. J. Hunt and F. C. Findley and at the southwest corner of lot of land No. __ belonging to B. B. Sargent, thence along said line between Mr. Sargeant and Mrs. Brown til it crosses the north and south line on the east, thence along the same line between F. C. & T. J. Hunt on the north and T. L. Lewis on the south, between lots Nos. ___ , thence along the same line for a few rods when it bears north, and passes through the lands of F. C. & T. J. Hunt, for about 200 yards, then bears back south til it reaches the same line above mentioned, thence it keeps said line between lots of land nos. ___, belonging F. M. & T. J. Hunt and thence along the said line til it goes several rods along between Wm. Moulder’s woodland, lot no. __On the north and Robert Webb’s lot no. __, on the south, then it bears south and comes back towards said line and again strikes the same as the western corner of lot nos 15 belonging to Wm. Whelchel having been awarded the contract to build a certain public bridge across Little River known as Pylant’s Bridge for the sum of $228 said sum being the lowest bidders on August 20th, 1884 on the line between Cherokee and Milton Counties. We adopt the Old McGinnis Ferry road to Sheltonville to a point in the farm of Thomas Little marked by a post oak tree, there leave the old road and run thence in a southeasterly direction in a straight line to two certain walnut trees on the lands of Little near the said trees turn due east and run 150 yards on line of land lot and thence run south east to Little Ferry Landing. Hembree, et al, showing that the changing of a portion of the road known as the Shallow Ford Road leading by Willeo Baptist Church, leading from said Church southward to an easterly course to intersect with the Marietta Road leading to Roswell the distance desired to be changed being about one fourth of a mile will conduce to the convenience of the traveling public and the people of the neighborhood through which said road will pass. It is hereby ordered that G. P. Johnson, Henry Pritchard and Nathan Turley be and they are hereby appointed reviewers of said contemplated change of road; and should said reviewers find such contemplated change of road of public utility, they are hereby directed and required to mark out the same and make report thereof to this Court under their oaths.

To the Court of Ordinary of said County the undersigned appointed for the purpose of reviewing the road petitioned by Isaac M. Berry, James H. Webb, R. A. Hembree, and others, commencing at Willeo Baptist Church and

March 16th 1887 - The Treasurer having paid out all the funds in his hands, and there being one A. J. Miller of Atlanta, Ga. for matting purchased for the court House and blankets for the jail, and there being no funds on hand to pay jail fees, and the wages of the Superintendent of the Poor House, it is ordered that three hundred dollars be borrowed of H. W. Jackson at 8% per annum, he having offered to lend that County that sum, and that an order issue to H. M. Jackson for the said sum of three hundred dollars, upon his paying that amount to the Treasurer.

March 18th 1887 - A. J. Miller of Atlanta paid $152.80 for matting to carpet the Court House and one dozen blankets for the jail.
