Notice is hereby given that an election will be held in that part of Milton County lying north of the Chattahoochee River on Wednesday the 6th day of July 1887 on the question of "fence" or "no fence," as provided for in section 1455 of the code of said state. Said election will be held un the same rules and regulations as provided for elections of members of the General Assembly, with the exception that no person shall be allowed to vote as said election, except in the militia district in which he resides.

By virtue of a statue made and provided, and an order of the Town Council of Alpharetta, Ga, an election was held on the third day of March, 1881 for five members of the town Council of said town of Alpharetta. Ordered that the County Treasurer pay to Joel Rucker Three dollars out of the funds for Public Buildings for repairing windows in the Courthouse April 8, 1876.

Ordered that the County Treasurer pay to W. H. Nesbit, Clerk of the Court of Ordinary, Three dollars and five cents, out of the fund for Public Buildings for one box of glass for the CourthouS. E. April 8, 1876.

Ordered that the County Treasurer pay Mell Bayley Twenty two dollars out of the Jail Fund for feeding and taking care of Bicah Howell from the first day of March to the first day of April, this April 18, 1876.

Court of the Ordinary and County Commissioners met for County purposes May 9, 1876. Present G. M. Hook, S. L. Rucker, H. B. Mikel, Ambrey Martin, and W. J. Cook. T. E. Walker presented an account for $11.50 for boarding guards and prisoners at the March Term of Milton Superior Court 1876. Ordered that the same be paid in full, but that the matter be looked into at the next Term of the Superior Court, with a view of getting the money returned.
Wm. Aiken presented an act. for services as a guard at the March Term of the Supr. Court. The same being for 4 days and 3 nights. Ordered that the same be paid for 4 days at $1.50 per day and that this cost be included the above cost of Mr. Walker.
The report of the Reviewers (appointed at the March Term of the Court to review a road leading from the residence of J. M. Luckey, Esq. to Willeo Cotton Mills) was read. Reported favorably A counter petition signed by various citizens of Crossvill District was also read. Report rejected and said Road refused.

Ordered that Elizabeth Hunter be dropped from the pauper list but that $1.00 be paid her.

Ordered that Jackson Chambers be allowed Six dollars ($6.00) for services as a guard at the March Term of the Supr Court.

Ordered that Mrs. Sally Hoyle be placed on the pauper list and be allowed Ten dollars for the year 1876.

Application was made to place Lewis Bridges and his wife on the pauper list.
Application granted, as to Lewis Bridges but refused as to his wife, she having relations able to support her.

Ordered that John Wright be placed on pauper list, and be allowed Ten dollars for the year 1876.

Ordered that James M. Taylor be allowed One dollar for hire of buggy to bring John McElroy from Marietta Jail.

Ordered that the Sheriff and his Deputies be allowed $ Thirty dollars for summoning juries at the March term of Milton and Supr Court.

Ordered that S. L. Rucker, H. B. Mikel, M. J. Seale. & G. M. Hook and W. H. Nesbit be appointed a committee to draft a plan for a jail.
Court then Adjourned until the first Tuesday in June next.

Ordered that the County Treasurer pay to Mell Bayley Twenty Dollars for feeding and taking care of Bicah Howell from the first day of April to the first day of May, this May 2, 1876.

The condition of the above obligation is as folloW. S. Whereas, the said V. A. Garrison has this day applied for License to retail Spirituous Liquors, which License is about to be issued. June 6th, 1876 - A committee was appointed for the 1st Tuesday in May to draft a plan of a Jail to be built on the Jail lot at Alpharetta. The following named persons were the committee viz G. M. Hook, S. L. Rucker, M. J. Seale, H. B. Mikel and W. H. Nesbit.
The following is the specifications adopted by the committee.
Will be let out to the lowest bidder, at the Court House in said County on Monday the 3rd day of July, 1876, the building of a wooden Jail, after the following specifications.
Building to be 20X40 feet. Single Story 12 feet high. Foundation sills to be 12X12 inches. Sawed or well hewn - all heart. Sleepers to be 2 ½ X10 inches, to be gained in the sills 4X6.
A partition to be run across one end of the house, cutting off 12 feet for the prison room, and another partition to be run across the balance of the house, so as to make 2 rooms of equal size. A center sill 12X12 inches, to be placed under the sleepers of the prison room, the sill to be on rock pillars.
2 cross sills 12X12 inches, to be placed under the partitions, and framed into the side sills, 4 corner posts, 12X12 inches rabbited 4X8 4 T posts, 12X6 inches 4 pannell doors 3X7 feet, to be well finished and good locks put on them.
6 Windows, 18 lights in each, 10X12 inches
Posts for windows 4X6. Studding to be 2X4 inches to be placed 2 feet apart from center to center
Cap joists to be 2X8 inches. Plates 4X6 inches
Flooring to be quartered, 1 ¼ inches thick, tongued and grooved, and secret nailed.
The house to be ceiled throughout, ceiling to be dressed and matched.
The roof to be covered with sawed shingles, all heart, to show only four inches.
Rafters project far enough to make an eave of 18 inches, and rafters and sheeting to be

dressed as far as they project, end projections to be the same and dressed.
Faicure boards to be put on the end of rafters, with crown moulding
Weatherboarding not to show more than 5 inches; and to lap 1 ½ inches and to be well dressed.
Doors and windows all to be cased and finished in a workmanlike manner.
The whole building to be strongly pillared with rock pillars, not over 10 feet apart, laid in good lime mortar. The lowest corner of the house to be 1 foot above the ground.
The frame work all to be well braced, tenanted and morticed.
The corner board to be 10 inches wide, pannelled and capped with freize 12 inches wide. Plinth board 12 inches wide to be placed at the bottom of the house, so arranged as to prevent water from running inside.
Joists and sleepers to be 2 feet from center to center.
A Veranda 7 feet wide to be placed on the front side of the house covering doors and windows, well supported by posts, finished in good style. Floor of Veranda to be all heart.
One stack chimney, made of good brick, laid in good lime mortar. 2 fire places, 3 feet wide in front, jams 12 inches thick. One fire place to front the prison room. The other on the opposite side. Chimney to extend 3 feet above the top of the house, and be neatly penciled
3 good coats of paint to be put on the house of dark color.
Steps made of 1 ¼ inch plank to be put in front of the doors. 2 Mantle Pieces, well finished.
The lumber all to be well dried.
To be paid for when completed and received and to be completed by Dec 1st 1876. Bond and security required of Contractor.

Court of Ordinary and County Commissioners met for County purposes July 3rd, 1876. Present G. M. Hook, S. L. Rucker, Ambrey Martin, W. J. Cook and H. B. Mikel.
A petition was read asking that a road be established from Willeo Cotton Mills to the residence of J. M. Lucky - Application refused.
The Commissioners then proceeded to let out the building of a jail. James Frazier was awarded the contract, he being the lowest bidder for the sum of $585.00.
The carrying of Bicah Howell to the Asylum at Milledgeville was next let out to the lowest bidder, - J. J. Patterson being the lowest bidder, his bid being $19.90.
Court then adjourned until the 1st Tuesday in August next.

Ordered that the County Treasurer pay to Mell Bayley Eighteen 50/100 Dollars, out of the Jail Fund, for feeding and taking care of Bicah Howell from the first of May to the first day of June, 1876. This June 7, 1876.

Ordered that the County Treasurer pay to Wm J. Cook Ten dollars out of the Pauper Fund for the use of John Wright, a pauper of said County, June 9th, 1876.

Ordered that the County Treasurer pay to Mell Bailey Twenty dollars and ninety-five cents for taking care of Bicah Howell from June 1st to July 5th 1876. This July 5th 1876.

Ordered that the County Treasurer pay to W. J. Cook, Ten dollars out of the Pauper fund for the use of Lewis Bridges, a pauper of said County, this July 7th 1876.

Ordered that the County treasurer pay to J. J. Patterson Nineteen and 91/100 dollars out of the Jail fund for carrying Bicah Howell, a Lunatic to the Asylum at Milledgeville.

Tuesday August 1st 1876 - Present G. M. Hook, S. L. Rucker, H. B. Mikel, Ambrey Martin, and W. C. Dorris and H. W. Paris.

A petition was handed in, asking that the road leading from near Grahams Mills and running in the direction of Marietta via, the residence of James Maulden, Rhoda Chatham, and Chaffin Chatham be abolished. Laid over until the 1st Tuesday in September next.

Ordered that Mrs. ______ Smith, widow of Allen Smith be allowed five dollars, out of the Pauper fund.

Ordered that Coroner I. T. Crisler be allowed Ten dollars for holding an inquest on the body of an infant found dead near the residence of Wm. Smith and that Henderson Arnold be allowed Eight dollars for burying said infant.

Ordered that in the event that J. M. Dodds give bond as Jailor to the Sheriff, that the ordinary be authorized to assign a room of the same J. M. Dodds house as a prison room to confine Mrs. Smith in, now in the hands of the Sheriff.
Court then adjourned until the 1st Tuesday in September next.

Ordered that the County Treasurer pay to W. C. Dorris Five dollars for the use of Mrs. Smith widow of Allen Smith to be paid out of the Pauper fund. This August 1st 1876.

Ordered that the County Treasurer pay to Harrison Arnold Eight dollars out of the Pauper Fund for burying an infant found dead near the residence of Wm. Smith. This August 1st 1876.

Ordered that the County Treasurer pay Jess Bailey One dollar and 50 cents for cleaning out the public well. This August 18th 1876.

Ordered that the County Treasurer pay Wm Bise Sheriff, Five dollars, part of his fee for carrying Hamp Childers to Marietta Jail August 29, 1876.

Ordered that a tax of 100% on the State Tax, be assessed for the County Tax for the year 1876.

Ordered that no action be taken at this term on the Petition for a road from near Grahams Mill, to the residence of Mrs. Chatham, but that the same be laid over until the 1st Tuesday in Oct next.

Ordered that Wm. Morton be allowed Three dollars for guarding prisons two days at the Justices Court in Big Creek Dist.

Ordered that T. E. Walker be allowed Nine dollars for feeding prisoners at the August Term 1876 of Milton Supr Court.

Ordered that J. M. Dodds be allowed Nineteen dollars and twenty cents for keeping and feeding Lavinia Smith, a prisoner under charge of murder from July 31 to 24 August, 1876.

Ordered that the Sheriff and his Deputies be allowed Ten dollars each for summoning Juries and waiting on the Supr Court, at the August Term 1876.

Ordered that, Wm. Bise Shff, be allowed $17.50 for extra service rendered in arresting and carrying to Marietta Jail - Payne and Hampton Childers, under warrants.

Ordered that David Bise be allowed One dollar and fifty cents for one days service as a guard at the August Term of Milton Supr Court, 1876.
Court was adjourned until the 1st Tuesday in October.

Court of Ordinary and County Commissioners met for County purposes Tuesday, Oct 3rd, 1876.
Present S. L. Rucker, Wm. J. Cook G. H. Hook, Ambrey Martin and H. W. Paris.
In the matter of the counter petition against the road leading from near the residence of Wm Gilliand, by the residence of Mrs. Rhoda Chatham and James Maulden, Ordered that the prayer of said petitioners be refused and that said road remain as a public road.

Ordered that the Ordinary furnish the floor for a bridge at Emersons Mill, if the community will build the balance of the bridge.

Ordered that S. L. Rucker, W. J. Cook and W. H. Nesbit, be appointed a committee to go to Marietta to examine the cells of the jail and draw up a plan for a cell for the jail of this County, and report at the next meeting of the Board.

Ordered that the County Treasurer advance to James O. Fraser, One hundred dollars, in part payment for the Jail now being built.

Olney Eldridge of Cobb County presented a petition, asking that the County build rock Abutments to a new bridge to be built across Vickerys Creek at Grimes Bridge - Application refused.

Milford Webb applied to have Mary Pannell placed on the pauper list. It was ordered that she be allowed five dollars per month, until she recovers from her present injuries.

T. B. Newton applied for an order to build a Bridge across Little River, near the residence of Mrs. Phillips, application refused, but ordered that the ordinary examine the banks of the creek, and ascertain what can be done and report at the next meeting of the Board.

D. W. Devore applied to have Rebecca Devore placed on the pauper list. Ordered that the application be granted and that D. W. Devore act as agent for her.

Ordered that L. M. Segers be paid Eleven dollars on account as jailor.

Ordered that J. O. Fraser be allowed $43.00 for extra work done on the jail.

Wm Power presented petition to reopen drive way, obstructed by A. Martin Jr, laid over till next meeting, to be decided by the next term of this court. Ordered that $5 be paid to any person that will carry Mary Pannell in the residence of Mrs. Delk.

T. A. Aubrey petitioned to be cut off into Big Creek District from the First District. Ordered that the same be granted, said change only to change the line of the District so as to run around the dwelling of said T. A. Autrey and back to original line.

Tuesday August 7 1877
The Board of County Commissioners met for County Purposes. Present G. M. Hook, S. L. Rucker, H. B. Mikel, John Chaffin, Ambrey Martin, and T. B. Newton. The petition of Wm Power vs. A. Martin, an application to reopen Private Way was taken up. The referees, (appointed at the last term of the Court) sent up a written report, each one separate.
Plaintiffs counsel objected to the return of the Referees being received by the Board, and were ruled out because the Referees were not sworn, afterwards, by consent of the Counsel for Plaintiff, the reports of the Referees were received and read as evidence. After hearing the testimony, and argument, it was ordered by the Board, that the road remains where A. Martin has placed it, but that he remove the two stumps in the road, and improve the sideling place in it.

M. Dinsmore, and others, presented a petition asking that the road leading from the Frogtown Road near the residence of Mrs. Phillips, leading by the residence of Wm Perry, to the Cumming road, near the residence of Mrs. Land, be declared a Public Road - Ordered that M. Dinsmore, Doc Phillips, and A. J. Douglass be appointed Reviewers of said road.

Ordered that John Morton and R. J. Thompson be allowed One dollar and 50 cents each for services as guards at March Term 1877 of Milton Superior Court.

L. M. Segars presented an account of $4.50 for digging a well on the jail lot. Account rejected. Ordered that it be not paid.

Application was made to place Jane Broadwell on the Paupers List - Ordered that she be allowed ten dollars.

County Commissioners met for County purposes. Present G. M. Hook, S. L. Rucker, Ambrey Martin, and John Chaffin. G. F. Mayfield and others complained by written application that the Private Way leading from Watkins Shop in the direction of Roswell is not kept up as was ordered previously by the Board, and an order asked to place said Private Way back on the old ground, if not worked out by I. E. Gentry within 20 days.
Ordered that I. E. Gentry show cause by the first Tuesday in October next why said Private Way should not be put in good condition and upon his failing so to do, the former order of this Court in relation to said Private Way will be rescinded and that said I. E. Gentry have notice of this order twenty days before the next term of this court.
W. H. Scott and J. F. Scott made application to alter a Private Way leading from the McAfee Bridge road, intersecting the Nesbit Ferry road, near the residence of John F. Scott, a short distance into the Still House Road, and following said Still House road about 125 steps where it will intersect the original road, making the new road about 23 yards further. W. H. and John F. Scott presented a petition to change the public road leading to Jetts Ferry by leaving the Nesbit Ferry road near the residence of John F. Scott, and intersecting the Jett Ferry road at a distance of 300 yards from the starting point.

Ordered that Jones A. Fuller, John P. Webb, and John W. Jones be appointed commissioners to review said road.

Ordered that Ailsey Miller be placed on the pauper list, and be allowed $20.00 for the year 1878. Isham Teasley appointed agent for her.

The commissioners appointed at the last meeting of the Board, to examine and report as the utility of a proposed change in the public road, leading from the Nesbit Ferry Road to the Jett Ferry road, having reported favorably, Ordered that the Ordinary issue the citation required by law, the same to be heard on the 1st Tuesday in May next.

A petition was handed in asking assistance for the wife of R. W. Morton - application refused. Wm Chaffin made application for pay for horse hire, while acting as special bailiff at the last term of the Superior Court - application refused.

Ordered that the Ordinary be authorized to assist Cherokee County in building a bridge across Little River at Grahams Mills.

The Commissioners appointed to review a contemplated road, leading from the residence of Bird Jett, in the direction of Jones Ferry and intersecting said road at the residence of Joseph Turner, having failed to report, Ordered that Bird Jett, James R. Tribble, and H. B. Mikel, be appointed to review and report on said road at the next meeting of the Board.

The building of a bridge across Big Creek at the Long bridge, was let out to the lowest bidder and was bid off by H. W. Paris for the sum of ($144.00) One hundred and forty four dollars to be built after the following specifications.

Specifications
Bridge to be 40 feet long, and the same height of the present bridge, and to rest on two rock abutments, and one wooden pillar. Abutments to be 12 feet long and 4 ½ feet wide. Cap Sills to be 12 x 14 inches.
Mend Sills and upright to be 12 x 12 inches, 12 feet long and to be braced on the inside.
Sleepers to be 6 x 12 inches, 6 sleepers to the span, outside sleepers to be 42 feet long, 10 x 12 inches. Flooring to be 12 feet long 1-1/2 inches thick and not over 7 inches wide, securely fastened to the sleepers at each end.
The timbers of said bridge to be all heart either of pine or oak.
Two iron rods 1 ¼ inches in diameter to go through the Cap seals at each end of the abutments and to extend downwards through the rock work 6 feet and to be securely fastened

to an iron washer 10 inches square. Also to be fastened down at the top with a tap 2 rock wings to be built on each side of the bridge, East side 15 feet long, West side 5 feet long to be flared as they reced from the bridge and to be filled with dirt so as to put the bridge in good traveling condition.
Good bannisters to be put on each side of the bridge, the entire length of length of the bridge and wings. All to be done in a workmanlike manner.
Bond and security required to keep the bridge in good repair for 7 years.

Court then adjourned until the 1st Tuesday in August next.

Tuesday Nov 5th 1878 - Board of Roads and Revenue met pursuant to adjournment. Present G. M. Hook, S. L. Rucker, W. H. Scott, John Chaffin and Ambry Martin.

Ordered that Wm R. Hunt be allowed one hundred dollars for drawing up specifications and drawings for the Court House..
It having been previously advertized, the building of the Court House was let out a public outcry to the lowest bidder and was bid off by H. B. Wallace of Marietta Georgia, at the sum of $4,849 to be built after Drawings furnished by Wm R. Hunt and the following.

Specifications
of the materials and labor required in the erection of a Court House for the County of Milton, State of Georgia, in the town of Alpharetta, in said county, on the site of the former Court House, according to the plans. Elevations, &c hereto annexed.
The Plans &c, herein referred to, are those drawn and signed by William R. Hunt, Engineer and Architect, Marietta, Ga, consisting of first story plan, second story plan and front elevation, with such other plans, elevations, sections, and detail drawings, described in the following specifications, as shall hereafter be furnished, all which, together, with such figures, writings and details, as may be upon them, are to be considered part of, and illustrate these specifications.

General Description of Building
The building will be of brick, two stories high, dimensions 68' 3" X 43' 3" from out to out of walls, with pilasters at intervals, as shown on plan, three bricks face, and one half brick projection; with fireproof vault inside of the building. All exterior walls, partitions and vault in the lower story, will will be of brick; and all the

partitions above, of wood. The roof will be of wood, hipped on all sides, and covered with shingles. All other particulars will be seen by reference to the Plans, and the following specifications.

Bricklayer
Foundation: The earth will be excavated to a depth sufficient to insure a firm and reliable bearing for the walls, and being brought to a level on the bottom, the foundation will commence 5 ½ brick thick for the exterior walls, and 3 bricks for the interior walls, with which thickness that will be carried up 5 courses, then racked back on both sides in 6 courses, to 3 ½ and 2 bricks, with which thickness they will be carried up to the level on the bottom of the bond timber of the first story joists. The foundation for the walls of the vault will be laid in like manner, being 2 bricks thicker than the full width of wall at the floor line.

Walls: The exterior walls will be 2 ½ bricks thick to the level of the second story joists, and thence 2 bricks thick to the top of the walls, except where otherwise shown on plans. All brick partition walls One and one half brick thickness. The double walls of the vault will be 1 ½ bricks thickness, each with 6 inch space between them. All walls will be laid as thin as the bricks will allow. Wherever blanks corresponding to window openings, are shown on Plans, they will recess 4", and be left rough, except on the jambs.

Stories: The first story will be 12 ft in height, and the second story 18 ft in height, both in the clear, allowing in each 3" for flooring, facings, and plastering.

Bricks: All the bricks used in the construction of the foundation and walls to the level of the first story joists, vault, facings of walls, trimmer, and relieving arches, fireplaces and flues and all chimney tops above the roof, will be of the best hard brick. The remainder of the work may be of good merchantable soft brick. No salmon or unsound bricks shall

be used in the work or brought upon the premises.

Mortar: The mortar will be composed of the best Georgia stone lime, and clean sharp sand, free from clay, loam, or other foreign substance, in the proportion of one part lime to two parts sand, by measure, with sufficient water to allow them to be well beaten and mixed together.

Brickwork: The outside faces of the walls will be built of the best selected brick, as nearly uniform in color as possible, neatly laid, the joints properly filled, thoroughly cleaned down and penciled. Eight inch straight arches will be formed over all window frames, and 8" relieving arches turned over all wood lintels. The bricklayer will be required to build closely around the ends of the joist, to bed all bond timbers and wall plates, and to set all wood bricks at the proper places for window and door casings, base $c, they being furnished by the carpentes.
All the brick work will be well bedded and flushed up, tied at every 6th course, and laid in sound and regular bond. The bricklayer will provide the needful material of every description, find all necessary scaffolding, and remove the same on the completion of the work; to attend the other mechanicks when required, to back in and fill up behind their work properly set all seals, frames, &c, and clean them off before painting; and carefully cover the walls when requisite to secure them from damage by the weather. All this work is to be done in a sound substantial and workmanlike manner, and no part shall be carried up more than 4 feet in advance of another, where connected.

Vaults: A fireproof vault will be built as shown on plan between the rooms of the Court of Ordinary and Clerk of Superior Court.

The walls of the vault will be built double, giving an outer and inner wall, with air space between, extending entirely around, as shown on Plan. The floor will be of the very hardest brick or concrete, the brick set on edge, carried on a solid bed of brick or concrete work, brought up to the level of the floor, from a point not less than 1 foot below the natural surface of the ground. The cast iron frame for the door will be properly and securely set, and thoroughly anchored into the walls. The roof of the vault will be anchored 3 bricks thick, well backed, and filled over to the level of the bottom of the second story joists, with concrete of stone or broken hard brick, sand and lime, thoroughly packed and rendered secure from damage, in case of fire, by the fall of any material whatever, from above.

Fire places: The fire places will be built, as shown on Plan, in all office rooms in the lower story, with backs and throats so arranged as to secure the greatest amount of heat, combined with thorough freedom of draught in the chimney.

Flues: Flues will be formed in the walls, as shown on Plan of second story, separate from those of the fire places below, with thimbles inserted at the proper height in the walls for the reception of stove pipes. All will be thoroughly pargetted, and kept cleaned out as the work progresses.

Hearths: All hearths will be laid with the best hard brick, neatly and evenly set in clean, dry sand, in the boxes, and when settled, to be exactly even with the top of the floor.

Plastering: All overhead joists will be *** with strips 1" x 2 ½", and ceilings and partitions will be lathed with the best sod or split laths, well nailed, and all the passages, lobbies, and rooms, except the Court Room, will be plastered with two coats and white washed. The scratch coat will be well haired and made rich with lime, and the browning coat will be brought out truly to

a straight edge. The white wash will be neatly and evenly laid on, so as to show a smooth and uniform surface. The walls and ceiling of the Court Room will be finished with a skim coat of lime putty, and smoothly whitened, in imitation of hard finish. A plainly moulded centre piece will be placed on the ceiling, and a cove, with bead, be run round the room. All plastering will be left clean and whole, and in perfect order at the close of the work.

Carpenter
Timbering: All the rough timber used will be of the best merchantable heart pine, free from sap, shakes, large or unsound knots, and any other defects which would weaken it, or impair its durability.
The flooring joists of the First and Second stories will be 2" x 12", placed 2' feet between centres, doubled wherever stud partitions rest upon them, and all trimmers and headers will have 1" additional thickness. Jail joists and headers will be framed with single tenon and bearsmouth or otherwise, if directed.
Ceiling joists will be 2" x 6", 2' between centres, properly framed and connected with the roof trusses. All joists will be properly cambered, and have two courses herring bone bridging, in the 15 ft spans, and one down the centre of the hall below, and the corresponding joists above. Bridging will be 1 ½" x 3" pieces, well fitted and nailed to the joists.
Flooring joists will extend 4" on the walls, resting on a 2" x 4" bond timber, and to be beveled on the ends, so that the upper edge may be flush with the wall on the inside.
Bond timbers will run round the upper portion of the walls on the outside, at the proper place to furnish a railing for the frieze. The tie beams of the roof

will be 6" x 12", the principal and hip rafters 6" x 12", braces 4" x 6", purloins will be 2" x 8", and common rafters 2" x 5". Partitions will be 2" x 6", studs 16" between centres, bridged once in their height, in the first, and twice in the second story. They will have sills and caps 2" x 6", resting on and supporting the joists in the several stories. Door posts will be 4" x 6".
Cornices: The cornice will be formed as shown on elevation with frieze 1" thick; with brackets and canticlevers of wood.
Roof: The roof will be sheeted with 1" straight edge plank, and covered with somid rived shingles. The hips properly secured against leakage; with scuttle hole and cover.
Gutters: The gutters will be formed in the cornice lined with tin, and discharged through two 6" conductors at the rear of the building.
Windows: All windows will have square heads, double hung, box frames, with wooden seals, 3" thick on front face. Sash 1 3/8" thick, check rail, hung with best linen sash cord and 2" axle pulleys. Glass 12" x 20", in 12 light windows for first story, and 18 lights in the second. All glass will be the best American or French cylinder, well bedded, sprigged and back puttied, and left clean and whole at the close of the work.
Blinds: All windows will be furnished with outside Venetian blinds, rolling slats hung with best blind hinges and fastenings. Blinds with stationary slats will be set in the blanks.
Doors: Outer doors in front will be as shown on elevation, with segment heads and transom lights. The door in rear on First story will have square head with transom. These doors will be twofold 1 ¾" thick raised moulding on the outside, and flush or OG on the inside. The doors of Ordinary's and Clerk's offices will be 3' 6" x 7' 6", 1 3/8" thick, four panel OG moulding with transom lights. The doors of the other rooms willt be 3' x 7' 6", 1 3/8".

In the second story, the doors between the lobby and Court Room will be 3' 0" x 8' 0", 1 ¾" thick, two fold, four panel, flush molded on both sides.
The doors between the Court Room and Grand Jury room and passage will be 3' X 8' 0", 4 panels; flush molded on side next Court Room, and OG on the inside. The other doors to the jury rooms will be 3' 0" x 7" 6", 4 panel, O G moulded. All doors will be hung in the most substantial manner with best loose pin bolts, and trimmed with best mortise locks, with white porcelain knobs, and plated collars and escutcheons, and be furnished with two keys each.
Floors: The floors will be laid with 1 ¼ " plank, not more than 5" wide, tongued and grooved, securely nailed at every joist, and brought to a smooth even surface. To be good, clear timber, thoroughly seasoned, and in good order when put into the work
Stairs: The principal stairs will be built as shown on Plan, with 1 ½ " treads and 1" risers, 2" back strings, with moulded risings returned on the ends. To have 8" newel post, toad back rail, and turned balusters, of black walnut or cherry.
The back stairs will have 1 ¼" treads and 1" risers, 1 ¾" back strings, plain nosings, 6" newel post, plain rail, and turned, balusters, stained to imitate walnut.

Balcony: A balcony will be placed in front of the outer door in the second story, as shown on plan and elevation, well framed, closely floored, and painted with rail and brackets as shown on elevation, the canopy, if used, to be covered with tin.
Interior Finish
Architranes: All double doors will have 8" architrans, with 2 ½" moulding and back bands, single

doors will have 7" architranes, and 2" mouldings. The window frames will have the same architranes with 1 ½" sill cap, and apron, with cove molding.
Base: The lower story will have an 8" base, with 2" molding, in all the rooms and passages, continued on the stairs.
In the second story, the same base will be placed in the lobby, back passage, and jury rooms. The Court Room will have a 10" base, with 2 ½" molding. A 1" quarter round will be planted on the bottom, taking the place of the shoe.
Mantels: Neat box mantels, of width suited to the chimney breast, and a finish corresponding to that of the rooms, will be placed over all fire places in the lower story.
Judges Bench: The platform will be as shown on plan, elevated 28 inches above the floor, immediately in front of the recess, which will be wainscotted to the height of 3 feet, and covered by a paneled arch springing from pilasters at the angle. The front of the desk will be of panel work, neatly moulded, and returned on the ends. The front of the platform will also be paneled, and slope at each end with the steps.
Bar: The bar will be enclosed with a railing 3 ft in height, having a 4" rail, turned balusters and post, as shown on plan, stained and varnished as black walnut.
Seats: The Court Room will be furnished with seats, as shown on plan, in the ordinary style of pews with open ends with curved arm rest. The seat and back will be sloped at the proper angle to secure comfort to the sitter and the seats firmly secured to the floor. All the material will be of the best description.
Lumber: All the lumber used for finishing purposes will be of the best description free from all defects, properly worked, neatly and firmly fixed, and in good order when put into the work.
Iron Work
Bolts &c: The king bolts in the roof will be 1 ¾" in

diameter, the brace bolts 1 ¾", and the foot and splice 1", all with the proper screws, nuts and washers. Straps and strumps, if used, will be ½" band iron, and all of the best quality.
Weights: The weights for sash will be cast of such dimensions and weight as may be prescribed, and be well made, so as to work easily in the boxes.
Vault Work: The frame for the door will be 2' 6" x 6' 6" in the clear by 2' 6" deep, of cast iron ½" thick, as shown on plan, with 6" flange on both sides with proper rebate for the door, cast in 4 pieces, and bolted together, perforated in the centre of jambs to give circulation through the hollow walls. The outer door is of ¼" boiler plate, 3" in the clear, filled with fire clay, properly riveted, and furnished with heavy wrought iron hinges, hasp, staple and lock. The inner door is of one thickness boiler plate, with plain latch. All the metal is to be of the best quality, accurately and securely fitted, and furnished.

Steps: The entrance steps will be built as shown on plan, of wood, with 1 ¾" tread and 1 ¼" risers, 2" strings; all of the best seasoned heart pine, well fitted and securely set.
Painting: All cornices, window and door frames and steps and balcony on the outside, will be painted 3 coats, sanded, if required, on the last 2 coats, to such shade as may be prescribed. All inside work will be painted and grained to imitate oak and black walnut, properly glazed, and varnished. All nail holes and imperfections must be stopped, and all knots and pitchy places, killed before painting. All wood work which would be injured, must be primed immediately and before varned on. All painting must
