If you didn’t get a chance to attend the August rally at Little Mountain RV Resort on Lake Guntersville you missed out on some really good “Down Home Southern Cooking.”  We had 10 member coaches and 1 guest coach present at the rally.

The early birds that arrived on Tuesday enjoyed a spaghetti supper prepared by some of the “chefs” of Deep South.

Wednesday coaches continued to arrive and Wednesday night we had “happy hour” at the new Beaver Marquis coach of our guest, John and Debbie Bright.  It is a beautiful coach.

Thursday other coaches arrived and again we enjoyed visiting with the arriving members.  Thursday night we took “the long and winding road” down to Guntersville to eat seafood at Wintzsell’s.  Steve Hindman joined us for dinner.

Friday night we celebrated the 33rd birthday of Deep South Chapter. Denise and Mike McCullars had the meeting room decorated with birthday balloons and table decorations. We started the evening off with delicious hors d’ oeurvres and the wagon master chefs Duck Gunnison and Mike Little, cooked hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill.  These were served with all the condiments.  The real treat after dinner was birthday cake and “make your own sundae.”  Then the fun began when we exchanged coach birthday gifts.  Everyone was excited about their gift and what others received.

Saturday morning members arrived at the meeting room for a full course Southern breakfast – again prepared by the wagon master chefs.  The menu included: grilled Conecuh sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits, grits and sausage gravy.

Following breakfast the regular business meeting was called to order by President Frank Milner.  Elaine Little gave the invocation and John Bright led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.  Janice Milner introduced our guests, John and Debbie Bright, Mobile, AL.  Denise McCullars made a motion to accept John and Debbie Bright as new members by transfer membership.  The motion was seconded and was voted on by members.  Gerald Pentecost, former Deep South President, installed the new officers for 2009-2010.  The new officers are:  Frank Milner, President; Joe Jones, 1st Vice President; Mike Canham, 2nd Vice President; Janice Milner, Secretary/Treasurer; Joe Jones, National Director; Elaine Little, Alternate National Director and Historian; Teddy Taylor, Chaplain; Diane Pentecost, Sunshine Chairman and Jim Little, Photographer.

Elaine Little, Alternate National Director, gave a report of her trip to Bowling Green, Ohio concerning the National FMCA Governing Board Meeting.  Elaine reported on several issues discussed and voted on at the convention. Med X will remain as part of FMCA benefits. Charlie Schrenkel, VP Southeast Region, was elected FMCA President for the next two years.

Diane Pentecost gave the Sunshine Report.  She recognized those with anniversaries and birthdays.  She reported that Billie Dickey had fallen and broken her hip and would be in rehab for approximately 20 days.  She also reported that new member, Charles Webb will be returning home from Houston, TX after receiving radiation treatments.

Diane Pentecost reported on the October Rally in the absence of Pat Knepper.  The rally will be held October 2-4, 2009 at Noccalula Falls, Gadsden, AL.

Saturday afternoon, the wagon master chefs toiled over grills preparing the boston butts for dinner.  The boston butts were accompanied by delicious side dishes prepared by the chef of each coach present.  Joining us for dinner were Bo and Martha Young of Hoover, AL, and their grandchildren as guests of Duck and Marlene Gunnison and Steve Hindman of Guntersville, AL and his date Angie as guests of Mike Little.

After our Sunday morning breakfast and goodbyes, we all packed up and headed out looking forward to the next rally in October.

Registration form for the October rally is attached.

Reminder:  Your dues for 2009-2010 were due at the August meeting.  If you have not paid your dues, send them to Janice Milner, 16A Brantwood Dr, Montgomery, AL 36109.

See you in October.

Frank and Janice Milner
