One of the many holes to be repaired when the battleship USS South Dakota returned to the States.  The performance of the ship seemed to be best described by historian Richard B. Frank in his book GUADALCANAL THE DEFINITIVE ACCOUT OF THE LANDMARK BATTLE.  He described the ship's performance as "lackluster."
