A Salute to Ray Fleig, a Hero of the Huertgen Forest Battle
In a salute to Ray Fleig, we start with a picture of the notorious Kall trail where Ray has fought the length and width of many times. Does this make
Ray a hero? Anyone who fought in the Huertgen Forest battle was a hero but Ray went beyond being a hero. Ray was the Platoon Leader of Company A, 707th Tank Battalion in November 1945 when he received a field promotion to Captain. He led the attack across the Kall River on November 4th. For a greater description of this battle and the others, read Ed Miller's book listed below.
LTC Ray Fleig, US Army (Ret) (L) with LTC Ed Miller, US Army (Ret) in the Hurtgen Forest, December 2005. Ray led 1st Plt., Co. A, 707th Tank Battalion in 1944 and received a Silver Star for heroism.
The pictures below show Ray all decked out in his new uniform and at the head of the table at a dinner in his honor. It doesn't get much better than this Ray
