Adult Day Care

Why Adult Day Care?

Adult day care provides an organized program of activities for adults who need supervision.  Not only does day care give the caregiver a “time out” from care giving, but it provides stimulating activities in a safe, comfortable, home-like atmosphere, thus alleviating isolation and providing an opportunity for socialization.  It’s been proven that those with Alzheimer’s/dementia who participate in regularly structured activities fare better than those who remain isolated.

Daily Activities

Daily activities are specifically planned from the Alzheimer’s/dementia client and include:

Special events such as holiday and birthday celebrations are regularly scheduled.

Nutritional concerns

Proper nutrition is especially important for Alzheimer’s/dementia clients since they often lose interest in eating.  A hot nutritious noon meal is served each day and morning and afternoon snacks are also provided.  Special-diet meals are available upon request.

Supervision

Under the direction of trained staff and volunteers, the ACTO client is under constant supervision in a facility which is safe and secure.

Support System

The ACTO program has a caregiver support group which meets from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. on a monthly basis.  Caregivers have the opportunity to leave their loved ones at the center while they attend the meeting.  Special programs are offered and speakers present information of interest to caregivers.  There are also open discussions where caregivers can share their experiences with others in a similar situation.  Any caregiver is welcome to attend.

ACTO (Alzheimer’s Caregiver Time-Out Program) is a state-funded program for those with Alzheimer’s/dementia.  There are no eligibility requirements and there is no charge for services, however, donations are a vital part of the program.

Day care hours are 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The in-home respite service is available Monday through Friday.

IN-HOME RESPITE CARE

In-Home respite care is available through the ACTO program.  Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Certified Nursing Assistants are available two or three times a week to assist the client in the home with personal care needs and activities of daily living (ADL).  The in-home program is a state licensed home health service which must meet requirements approved by the Georgia Department of Human Resources office of Regulatory Services.  Like the day care program, the only eligibility requirement is a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s/dementia.
