Race Day Details

Saturday March 1, 2008

Starting Times

Half Marathon - 8:00 am (eastern)

5k Run & Walk - 8:30 am (eastern)

Start / Finish Area

The start/finish is located at Finley Stadium in downtown Chattanooga (corner of Main St & Carter St.)

Parking

There are 2 lots available for race participants on race morning. Both are accessible from Chestnut Street and are North and South of Finley Stadium. The North lot is larger and the South lot can be accessed from west 20th Street. Please note, Carter St. will be closed to traffic on race morning.

Packet Pick-Up

Packets, including your race number, can be picked up:

  • Friday February 29 from 4 pm to 9 pm (est) at the Downtown Sports Barn (301 Market St. Chattanooga), or
  • Saturday March 1 from 6:30 am to 7:30 am (est) at the First Tennessee Pavilion next to Finley Stadium (corner of Main St. & Carter St.)

Race Day Registration

Participants who did not pre-register will be able to register on the day of the race at the start/finish location. Race day registration fees are as follows:

  • Half Marathon - $60.00
  • 5k - $25.00

T-shirts will be provided to race day registrants while supplies last.

Bag Check

Before the start of the race, participants may store a bag in the "bag check" area inside the First Tennessee Pavilion next to Finely Stadium. Participants should place their belongings in a plastic bag and clearly label the bag with their race number. Please do not check valuables.

Bags will be available for pickup after the race. Participants will need to show their race numbers to retrieve their bags. Bags that are not retrieved after the race will be thrown out or donated to charity.

Aid Stations on the Race Course

Aid stations containing water and Powerade will be available approximately every two miles on the half marathon course.

The 5k course will have one aid station near the half-way point.

The aid stations will be supported by charities participating in the Scenic City Charity Challenge, so be on the lookout for your favorite charity!

Spectators

Best places for family and friends to watch the Half Marathon include Ross’ Landing behind the Tennessee Aquarium on Riverside Dr. (Mile 2 and 11), Bluff View Arts District on High St. (Mile 9), and North Chattanooga on Frazier St (Mile 10).

The best place to watch the 5k is at Riverfront Pkwy and Martin Luther King Ave at Kelly Subaru ( Mile 1.3 and 1.8). The turn around is at mile 1.55 and they’ll pass this spot twice but on opposite sides of the road.

Post Race Food

Post race food will be available near the finish line in the First Tennessee Pavilion. The food is being provided by Publix Super Markets.

Awards Ceremonies

Awards ceremonies will be held in the First Tennessee Pavilion at 9:30 am (for the 5k), 10:45 am (for the half marathon), and 11:30 am (for the charity challenge).

Showering After the Race

Participants may shower in the locker rooms of the downtown Sports Barn located at 301 Market St. When entering the Sports Barn please tell the front desk that you are a Scenic City Half Marathon and 5k participant.

Race Day Weather

On average, Chattanooga's temperature on March 1st ranges from a low of 36 degrees to a high of 58 degrees. The record low for March 1 is 17 degrees (1914) while the record high is 79 degrees (1997).
