Not Just Another Pretty Face

Fall, 2006 - One of the new geese to visit the lake in September appeared to be sleep walking— white eyelids showing as it walked. When I went over for a closer look, its eyes were open, after all. What I was seeing were two white spots in the downy fur, one spot above each eye. "Eyebrows" was thus named for the location of its spots. What's more, just look at the distinctive white neck band—a sort of pearl necklace.

As one might expect from such a fashionable goose, Eyebrows is not camera-shy at all. It is quite friendly and curious, and will eat from my hand, too.
