Viscount Peter
In January 2007 we went to the local Humane Society to look at a rabbit they had. His name was Peter and he had been dumped there by a couple who had moved into a no-pets apartment. Peter had been at the shelter for about six weeks. We entered a room that smelled strongly of urine. Dogs were loudly barking nearby and cats filled every cage but one old cage at the far end. There sat Peter hunched up in the corner of a urine-soaked cage with no litter, water, or pellets. The only food was what looked like a small handful of grass clippings from someone's yard. I put my hand into the cage and Peter ran over and nuzzled it. Though he was obviously afraid of us, he was happy to see anyone who was a kind face there. It took us about 5 seconds to decide that we were not leaving without him. Peter was introduced to litter pans, all types of hay, and a freedom he had never experienced before.
We took Peter home and began his transition to a house rabbit. He devoured the hays and pellets in his new cage but he had apparently never been fed greens before and didn't know what they were. We let him out and he jumped with happiness all over the house. Since those early days the newly titled Viscount Peter has been settling in and learning the ropes as a house bunny here. He has two stuffed bunny friends that he loves to be with.
Peter is a real sweetheart bunny who loves to be petted. He is fitting in well with the rest of the gang here and the future looks bright for this happy little guy.
