Casper
Casper is the son of Daddy Cat. He came from the barn nearby with Daddy Cat one
day in 1997 and he has been here ever since. He is definitely a momma's boy, as
you can tell from this photo! Casper was one of the older guys here and was very quiet and reserved.
In January 2007 we suddenly noticed that Casper's pupils were fixed and dilated. A CAT scan and MRI revealed that he had a large, inoperable pituitary gland tumor. We opted for radiation treatments but his health went downhill very rapidly. We kept him comfortable with medications. Casper passed away on 2/27/07 as he was receiving anesthesia for his first radiation treatment. Here is the last photo of Casper alive. You can see the radiation CAT scan markings in preparation for his treatment. He was so sweet and did not deserve the end he faced. At least he did not suffer at the end.
Karen was with Casper for his radiation treatment. I asked her if he was afraid and what sort of mood he was in during his last hour. She said that Casper was fascinated by a female cat named Mistletoe who belonged to a stranger named Flo. This distracted Casper the entire time and he was not afraid at the end. As I was typing this update I received a very nice email from Flo about his last few moments. Casper was a very special cat and we will always remember him. He is now with Daddy Cat curled up near the Bridge.
